Although you are in range, that score is not ideal given that it's below their average. It means they will place more weight on all the other parts of your application. It's good that you've got the high GPA, but the GMAT matters more than GPA since it's a more reliable gauge of whether or not you're up for the rigors of b-school. Is there really no way at all that you can take it again before the R2 deadlines? It won't make much difference if you note on your application that you plan to take it again - they'll use your current score & will not wait to assess your candidacy. If you do submit a higher score after the deadline they'll take it into consideration, but schools begin to review applications & decide on interview invites very soon after the applications are submitted so the risk is that you'll be too late.
It's not ideal to wait an additional year to apply - at that point you'll start to a bit more work experience than they like to see. I'd really see if there is any way at all to retake the GMAT before those R2 apps, even if it means taking some time off of work to do so! With a GMAT that's closer to their median you'll be in a much stronger position! That's not to say you can't get in with the current score but given the time between now & the deadline I'd seriously considering investing time in your GMAT so you don't have that disadvantage working against you!
