so, i took the GMAT for the 2nd time last week. quant has been my stumbling block, and though i thought i'd prepared adequately, i still didn't do very well. in fact i did worse on the quant the 2nd time, even after studying, than i did on the first go round!
1st attempt: Q40, V40 (that's from memory, could be a point off up or down); 650 overall
2nd attempt: Q37, V45; 680 overall.
does anyone know whether adcoms at top 10 to 20 programs would be kind enough to select the higher score for each section (such that i'd end up with a Q40, V45 effectively)?
should i retake it? i can't really tell whether the 2nd quant score was a fluke or not. some of the questions i encountered seemed far harder than anything i'd seen in the
OG, actually more on the level of the GMATClub questions. i studied hard. i could answer the most difficult questions in the
OG pretty easily (the GMAT Club questions are i think just always going to be out of my ability range), i scored 700 and 710 on the practice tests from mba.com. so i guess the question is should i assume it was a fluke, learn better discipline in skipping questions i obviously don't know, and hope for a slightly better quant score (say 42 or 43), or should i accept the quant score the way it is and just apply to lesser schools?
thanks for any input you can provide.
