We are given that a football team averaged 35 points per game over the first n games of the season, or 35n total points. We are also given that after scoring 28 points in the final game, the average was 34 points per game. Note that the total number of games played is n + 1. Thus:

(35n + 28)/(n + 1) = 34

35n + 28 = 34n + 34

n = 6

Since the team played a total of n + 1 games, the answer is 6 + 1 = 7.

\(35*n + 28 = 34 (n +1)\)

Or, \(35n + 28 = 34n + 34\)

So, \(n = 6\)

Thus, total no of games played in the tournament is 6 +1 = 7, Answer must be (C)

\(? = n + 1\)

Let´s use alligation:

\({1 \over {n + 1}} = {{35 - 34} \over {35 - 28}} = {1 \over 7}\,\,\,\,\,\, \Rightarrow \,\,\,\,\,\,? = n + 1 = 7\)

This solution follows the notations and rationale taught in the GMATH method.
