Suppose total number of fruits be x.

Apples = \(\frac{3}{10} * x\)

Oranges = \(\frac{2}{10} * x\)

Tangerine = \(\frac{5}{10} * x\)

So, if we are able to get count of any of the fruits. we will be able to get total number of fruits.

(1) The fruit basket contains a total of 8 apples and tangerines.

0.3 * x + 0.5 x = 8 ==> x = 10 -- Sufficient.

(2) The fruit basket contains fewer than 12 oranges

We don't know total number of any of the fruit. -- Insufficient.
