THE CORRECT ANSWER IS (C) NOT B :P :P :P

WE are told that FIRST VISIT has cost 10$ AND AFTER THE FIRST ONE EACH VISIT HAS COST 6$

SO FOR FIRST VISIT cost is 10$ the second is 10+6 =16$ and the third one has 10+6+6 =22$

OUT of 100 people, 30 visited TWICE so we HAVE 30*16= 480$
10 visited 3 times ,so we have 10 *22 =220$

and the rest (100-30-10 =60 ) visited ONCE .so we have 60 *10 = 600$

The club's total revenue is the sum of the 3 items so we have 480+220+600 = 1300 $ ANS C.....

I get B. This question seems too straightforward for 600+. Am I missing something?

100 first-time visits --> 100(10) = $1000
30 + 10 = 40 subsequent visits --> 40(6) = $240

Total revenue: 1000+ 240 = $1240

The answer is B.

Ans C

100 Customers
30 - 2nd visit:
So, 30 * (cost of 1st visit + Cost of 2nd Visit) = 30 (10 +6) = 480 $

10 - 3rd Visit:
So, 10 * (cost of 1st visit + Cost of 2nd Visit+ Cost of 3rd Visit) = 10 (10+6+6) = 220 $

100 -40 = 60 are first visit only.
So, 60 *10 = 600 $

The total revenue is 600 + 480 +220 = 1300 $

hi arun and mehrdad ,
the 10 people who came 3rd time would also be part of total people coming 2nd time...
so 2nd time will be 20 as rest 10 are being counted in third time
:wink: :wink: :)

Re: At a tanning salon, customers are charged $10 for their first visit in [#permalink]
Dear chetan 2 u,

Let me consider another approach,

Let consider 100 people came to the Salon for the first time so we have 10*100 =1000 $ revenue,

OUT of 100 people we see that 30 people came for 2nd time so they must charge another 6$ and we see here 6*30= 180$

Finally , another 10 people out of 100 people (NOT OUT of 30 people ) came trice. so they must pay 6 $ for the second time and another 6 $ for the third time so they sould pay 12 $ in addition to the initial 10 $ so here we have 10*12=120$ so the salon's total revenue is : 1000 +180+120 =1300 $ :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Dear mehrdadtaheri, i think we would have agreed on ur point if it would have been "30 came for 2nd visit only"...
but again it could be what u point out... let the person post ans for clarity

Re: At a tanning salon, customers are charged $10 for their first visit in [#permalink]
There seems to be some confusion regarding this question. I guess the difficulty comes in the interpretation. I would opt for a literal interpretation. 30 second visits and 10 third visits does not mean that 30 people visited exactly twice and 10 visited exactly thrice. The question would have said "exactly" if that were the case. Choice C is a trap.

100 first-time visits --> 100(10) = $1000
30 + 10 = 40 subsequent visits --> 40(6) = $240

Total revenue: 1000+ 240 = $1240

The answer is B.

Dear ccmba,

the point which you missed is the second 6$ has to be charged to the 10 people which brings another (10*6)= 60$ revenue for the salon so this 60$ plus the initial 1240$ brings the total revenue to 1300$ . so ans B is NOT CORRECT

Why would they be charged again?

I have 10 people made 3 visits. 10(10) + 20(6) = 100 + 120 = 220

20 people made exactly 2 visits. 20(10) + 20(6) = 100 + 120 = 320

70 people made exactly 1. 70(10) = 700

220 + 320 + 700 = 240 + 1000 = 1240

Again, I think the question is worded clearly and some are reading into a reading that simply cannot be supported by the text.

Is the question stem says that 30 people visited the salon twice AND OUT OF THOSE 30 PERSON 10 PERSON VISITED TRICE?????? IF NOT <HOW YOU SUBTRACT 10 FROM 30???? THEY ARE NOT RELATED TO EACH OTHER... IF the question stem told that OUT OF 30 people 10 visited for the third time , YOU WOULD BE correct but it DID NOt....

"30 made a second visit." This does not mean that none of the 30 also made a third visit. Please read the question. It also says that 10 out of the 100 visited thrice, which also means 10 out of the 30. I have shown two different ways to solve this question...I think what makes it a 600+ question is that so many people would misinterpret the question as you have.

There is no clear way which links 30 people to 10 people. the question stem JUST tell that of which 30 person visited two times ,and 10 person visited 3 times. so , it's not clear if 10 person related to those 30 person or related to the whole. THE only clear issue is this 30 people visited two times. so this is not none of our fault... but I think 10 person are independent form those 30

I think if we're not told that the sets are disjoint, we must assume they're nested. The question is designed to frustrate us, unfortunately.

Answer = B = 1240

Revenue from 10 three time visitors = 10 * (10+6+6) = 220

Revenue from (30-10) two time visitors = 20 * (10+6) = 320

Revenue from 70 one time visitors = 70*10 = 700

Total = 700+320+220 = 1240
