Booth EMBA: How to Make the Final Deadline, June 12The Booth EMBA program is one of the most prestigious MBA programs around. It is hard to imagine that the final deadline, June 12, is quickly approaching. How can you get your application prepared in a matter of weeks?
Your main task is to put together outstanding essays along with an excellent resume. You also need an Executive Assessment score. Consider taking these steps if you want to make the final deadline:
•
Essay. Begin to draft your main essay. Some candidates can draft on their own, but if you find you are spending too much time drafting your response, you can seek the support of a reputable consultant who can help you outline your essay so that you draft the ideal content from the beginning and do not need extensive re-writing. The main essay is among the most important components of the Booth application, so make sure to focus on outstanding content that presents your qualifications in the best possible light.
•
Recommendations. Business schools will often accept your recommendations up to 7-10 days after the deadline. Ask a superior or other appropriate professional colleague as soon as possible to write a recommendation for you. Give them solid guidance about what sort of topics to discuss in the letter, and remind them about examples of your impact and leadership at work. The recommendation only needs to be about 6-7 paragraphs long. Be sure to guide your writers so that they focus on qualities that help assure the admissions committee that you are a top performer and have great future potential.
•
Resume. Revise your resume so that it is the best application resume possible. You want the resume to be a highly effective snapshot of your candidacy that makes the admissions committee want to admit you from the beginning. Remember, there is a difference between a job resume and an application resume, so make sure to add the relevant credentials that the admissions committee values when admitting candidates.
Please note, it should still be possible to update your resume after you submit it with the application. So, the resume can be one of the last items on your list because you can likely revisit it shortly after the official deadline, sending in an updated and improved version after the deadline, if needed.
•
Executive Assessment score (or GMAT/GRE score). You will need to submit an Executive Assessment (EA), GMAT, or GRE score. Most candidates take the EA because it requires less study time than the GMAT or GRE. If you are just beginning to prepare for your standardized exam, you can take the exam shortly before the deadline so you can submit a complete application. If you don’t score at least in the high 140s, you can ask the school for time to re-take the exam or offer to take a course to ensure your quant skills are in shape before matriculation. The schools do not want to lose great candidates over the Executive Assessment score, so be mindful that you can often work around a less-than-ideal score.
