Thanks! Great to hear about your positive ongoing experience at Tepper. As you've kindly offered, I'd like to take this opportunity to ask some more specific questions about the program:

After a lot of hassle, I finally managed to secure time and resource for a campus trip to the U.S. (I'm an international) only to find out that the schools have gone to the winter holiday already! Would you think that if I visit Tepper during the week starting 13th Dec, would there be any students/adcom staff who could meet me?

I've already done a phone interview with Tepper (with Lauren Capone) and really like the program. As I've never visited Pittsburgh, I'd like to see the city by myself. However, I do have a concern that if I visit during the week just before the decision release on the 20th, my visit may reflect weird on me? I am inclined to believe that the decision is already made by the time I manage to visit. Any insight would be appreciated.
With or without a visit, it seems that the 20th would be yet another all-nighter for me (time difference is a...!).

Thanks!

I would strongly advise visiting these places as your choices are all over the map, regardless of classes and other detail BS. It think it will be worth your while if you have the cash. Pittsburgh is a small city, Paris is huge, Tuck is in the middle of the woods/mountains, your other schools are in "the south" (different dynamic). What are your post-grad goals?

Thanks for comments.

At this time, I'm visiting only these schools I intend to apply during r2, which are mostly in the East Coast, plus maybe Tepper. As you point out, I have applied to schools in a wide geographical range.

Just for your curiosity, HEC Paris is not in Paris, actually. The naming logic is similar to calling the Narita airport as Narita Tokyo airport (Narita is in Chiba, not in Tokyo). It is associated with the closest internationally known city for convenience. I've been at HEC campus couple times (I'm from Europe), and the campus is in a suburb of Paris. Jouy-en-Josas carries an air of very remote countryside town, far from the business of Paris.

Good luck to us all, the decision date is approaching however slowly!

Thanks for the info and I get what you said. We have a similar situation in Boston. HBS & MIT are pretty much right in the city with some peripheral schools miles outside (yet still close enough for easy access (similar to HEC Paris?). But Tuck is in the middle of nowhere. I go snowboarding out there in the winter to get away from it all... Southern schools I just don't know. Which leads me to believe you have to visit, hence my message.

Good luck!

Next week may be a difficult time to visit, but you should check with the admissions office to see if anyone will be available (there will not be classes). Our last final is on the 14th so my guess is that you will have a better chance on Monday or Tuesday, rather than later in the week. I think it would be helpful to visit at some point, but it is not critical to do so before receiving a decision.

I haven't taken negotiations yet, but I have heard good things as well. The first two mini's consist of core courses and we will begin taking electives after break.

Hi,
Does Tepper change its status to Reject?
I had applied in R1 and my status is still "Stage 3: Credentials Received - Appication Under Review by the Admissions Committee"
Does this imply a ding w/o interview?

call them up. the decision is 20th so the closer we get to that date the less chances for interview invites.

13 more days!!!!!

It's a bad idea. But once the decisions are released, then you can ask the interviewer. But after the interview, you could have asked "What kind of candidates does Tepper admit?" And if I were the inetrviewer I would have said "Candidates like you."

Similar to job interview, it is unwise to ask for feedback at the end of the interview. In the best case, you would receive a meaningless reassurance of good performance that has nothing to do with the interview outcome, because the interviewer would feel obliged to say something positive about you.

In the worse scenario, you are hurting your chance of getting the job (or spot at business school), because that sort of question reflect a poor self-esteem and overly nervousness of the interviewee.

And that's just the scenario where you ask for the feedback AT THE END of the interview. But if you take an extra step to call them afterwards, this magnifies the nervousness and poor self-esteem factor above, because you have taken that extra effort to call.

I guess, it's like a dating (as I was told in the CBS Thread!). If you worry about your 'performance on a date, don't ask the girl how you did at the end of the date! That would not impress the girl at all, and she might even feel annoyed for having to say some falsely positive thing about you! (As a girl, I've been there!)

Good luck to everyone. One more week to go!

OMG...I heard that b-school admission process is like dating but never thought that the party on the other end has to be treated like a girl! So from now until March, I will behave like a guy.

Ha ha, that was just one example. I am guessing that the dating analogy works both directions, and if you want the schools to be the guys, that would work, too.

My point was that asking for a feedback after a 'date' (=interview) would come off nervous and confident-less, boy or girl.

I'm in for R2. Visited in October and loved it there, but didn't have time to do pre-application interview.

Anyone who took the option C of the 3rd essay ("One thing people would be surprised to know about me is…"), did you go for something professional, or personal?

In the "people would be surprised..." essay, I went for a personal thing.

In an essay tip, I saw that the 'surprise essay' should complement the rest of the application package, bringing an aspect of yours that has not come up in any other part of the application. So, instead of emphasizing a unique aspect I have that was already visible in my app, I added a story that was totally new and fresh.

Hope this helps.
