I'm curious how people are handling the 250-word short answer essays. Does anyone have room to really write a compelling "story" for these, or are you pretty much diving right into the response?
I'm having a hard time keeping things within the word limit while still including a standard intro & conclusion. Thoughts or feedback would be much appreciated, thanks!
The 250-word short essays are definitely a big challenge. But after I was done with them, I realized that the size makes for a short and crisp message which is probably more impactful. 250 words is not thaaat short either. Kellogg for example asks for leadership examples in a 600-word essay. That's about 200-300 words per experience, not including the introduction/conclusion. I had more problems with the Kellogg's leadership essay frankly (trying to fit 3 examples in 600words!).
FWIW, I approached essay 2&3 with a STAR approach (Situation and/or Task, Action, Result). For e.g. one of my essays had this breakdown:
Situation - 51 words
Task - 64 words
Action - 88 words
Result - 46 words
Total = 249 words
In a couple of the essays I also tried to weave a short sentence (20-30 words) to explain how this relates to what I aim to get out of a Haas MBA. It's not asked, and I guess if there's a word shortage, this may be the first thing off the list.
Hope that helps.
