The first post needs to be updated for R2. The R2 deadline according to the website is Jan 6th. I'm putting together the recommendation documents and haven't started on the essays. Good thing I checked the website!

FYI I checked with the admissions office and they are out on holiday between 12/21/2009 and 1/1/2010 so don't hold your breath during those two weeks.

Did you get the impression that any more R1 invitations will go out?

I got the impression that they will review applications and extend invites until they go on vacation on 12/21/2009. After that it might be a lost cause. Likely closing in on the last stack of applications here.

Thinking about r2, but the app seems pretty difficult with the video and all.

To everyone who is applying,
a q on the video:

Are you showing your face/yourself in the video?

On one hand, it seems obvious if I make a video about myself I would show me doing some activity or the other. However, another opinion is that it would open the application to a looks bias, either positively or negatively.

What are you guys doing?

I did the video (submitted R2 already). However, due to size limits, I wasn't able to do much. I only showed a pic of myself with me talking in the background. And of course there will be looks bias. There's voice bias, personality bias, grades bias, writing bias, family connection bias, etc. I think it's biased that I do not have the physical gifts to compete in the Olympics, yet some of the other applicants were unfairly born with these characteristics. There are 10 million biases.

Showing yourself reveals to the adcom if you can present yourself well, which is very important in business.

Per AdCom at infosession, about 1/4 of applicants thus far have done video. They really seemed more curious to see how it was turning out. When someone asked about the size limit, they didn't seem to understand how the 10MB is limiting (a bit surprising to learn actually).

I'm applying R2, and im leaning towards doing audio just because of the size issues and the lack of video recording equipment. Best I can do is a grainy webcam. I really don't think submitting a subpar quality video file is better than a quality audio file. And how much quality can you put in 10MB?

I don't exactly remember, but I believe the limit is 4MB.

I just checked the application form. The video size limit is 5mb.
It sounds fair considering it's just a 1 minute clip.

I find it interesting though that approx 1/4 so far have submitted video.
I expected a majority to opt for it.

I went with audio since I didn't have the equipment needed to record the video.

Has anyone who had an interview already heard back with a decision yet? I had a phone interview about 3 weeks ago but hadn't heard anything since, and guess I won't in the next couple weeks with the holidays coming up.

One more small but imp clarification needed reg the audio/video q:

4. Select and respond to one of the two following questions. We would like you to respond to the question by recording an audio or video response, 1-2 minutes long (up to 5 MB maximum), for upload in the online application. (Please note: The supported file types for audio files are: .avi, .wav, .mp3, .wmv, .midi, .wma, .aiff, .au, .mp4; the supported file types for video files are: .mov, .avi, .wmv, .mpeg). If you are unable to submit your response via audio or video, then please prepare a written response instead. (250 words)

Does this mean that the video/audio response should also be within 250 words?
