didn't read slower and chose D within 5 secs.

so (1) is sufficient anyway --> the questions is not whether it is actually true, just if we can figure it out

(2) statement 2 says < 28.8 so could be less than 24 but could also be greater

such a stupid mistake :(

During a certain bicycle ride, was Sherry's average speed faster than 24 kilometers per hour? (1 kilometer = 1000 meter)

(1) Sherry's average speed during the bicycle ride was faster than 7 meters per second.
(2) Sherry's average speed during the bicycle ride was slower than 8 meters per second.

We take the minimum possible value as 7 (since it was faster than that if 7 satisfies it then anything above 7 will satisfy it)

\(\frac{7 meters}{sec} * \frac{60 secs}{min} * \frac{60 mins}{hour} * \frac{km}{1000 meter}\) = \(\frac{7 * 3600}{1000} = \frac{7 * 36}{10}\)

\(\frac{252}{10}= 25.2 > 24\) Sufficient.

Eliminate B/C/E

Statement 2)

slower than 8 means it could be 7 or 6 or any other number from this we cannot determine for sure.

So insufficient.

Answer choice A

During a certain bicycle ride, was Sherry's average speed faster than 24 kilometers per hour? (1 kilometer = 1000 meter)

\(24 km/hour = 24 * 1000 m/hour = \frac{24000}{60} meters/ minute = \frac{24000}{3600} meters / second = \frac{20}{3}=6.67 m/s\)

New question stem Was was Sherry's average speed faster than 6.67 m/s

(1) Sherry's average speed during the bicycle ride was faster than 7 meters per second.

7 is greater than 6.67 m/s Sufficient

(2) Sherry's average speed during the bicycle ride was slower than 8 meters per second.
Yes if avg speed was slower than 8 but faster than 6.67
No, if avg speed is slower than 6.67

Not sufficient

Hence A

S > 24 km/hr

24 km/hr = 20/3 = 6.67 m/s

Question: S > 6.67 m/s

1) S > 7 => Sufficient

2) S < 8 => Not Sufficient

ANSWER: A

(1) Sherry's average speed during the bicycle ride was faster than 7 meters per second.
(2) Sherry's average speed during the bicycle ride was slower than 8 meters per second.

(1) Converting 7 meters per second into kilometer per hour: 1*7/1000*60*60=25.2 kilometers, which is greater than 24 kilometers per hour. Sufficient.

(2) If take 5 meters per second then the result will be NO, But She can take 7 meters per second then the result will be YES. Insufficient.

The answer is A.

(1) Sherry's average speed during the bicycle ride was faster than 7 meters per second.
(2) Sherry's average speed during the bicycle ride was slower than 8 meters per second.
Solution:

Question Stem Analysis:

We need to determine whether Sherry's average speed is faster than 24 kilometers per hour.

Statement One Alone:

Since there are 3600 seconds in an hour, her speed is more than 7 x 3600 = 25,200 meters per hour or 25.2 km per hour. Statement one alone is sufficient.

Statement Two Alone:

Since there are 3600 seconds in an hour, her speed is less than 8 x 3600 = 28,800 meters per hour or 28.8 km per hour. Since her speed is less than 28.8 km per hour, it could be more than 24 km per hour, or it could be less than 24 km per hour. Statement two alone is not sufficient.

2 Key Habits that are very often helpful:

1. Rephrase the DS stem! (Convert the units in the stem, right away)
2. "Simplify before Multiply!"
