Hi everyone,

I gave my GMAT on July 13, 2017 and got a score of 750 (V: 42, Q: 49, IR: 4, Essay: 5).

I want to specialize in Strategy Consulting and have shortlisted the following schools;
1. MIT Sloan
2. Kellogg
3. Columbia Business School
4. Indian School of Business
5. Wharton

Profile:
Age: 25
Nationality: Indian
Work Ex: 3 years in Aerospace Defence Public Sector Organisation
Degree: Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering (80% Final Score) from a little known Pvt. Engg. college in Hyderabad, India

I want to apply to only 3 colleges, in which ones do I stand the best chance?

Will my abysmally low scores in IR and Essay be a drawback?

Are there any other reputed colleges that I should be thinking about?

PS: Availability of financial aid is one of the major considerations.

Any suggestions will help a lot. Thanks in advance :D

All those Top schools will provide you the opportunity for the consulting field. However, you need to understand that you come from very tough competitive pool. So you need to consider lower school as safety schools as mentioned in of the above posts.

Regarding the IR, I read recently (but I do not remember where ) that consulting demand minimum IR 6. My advice to contact career service of one of the top universities such as Kellogg or Tuck. They will be helpful. BTW, I had positive interaction with person in charge for consulting in career service of Tuck.

Good luck

First of all, there are no guarantees regarding financial aid in any way so I don’t really want to speculate on that part too much. What I could do, with some more information about you, is to give you an evaluation of your chances of admission at these schools. But I am missing a lot of information that I would need in order to do that, so I would suggest you fill in as many details as you can here: https://aringo.com/mba-admission-chances-calculator/ in order for ARINGO to be able to do a proper evaluation for you.

What is the reason you only want to apply to 3 schools by the way? As you probably know, most applicants add one of two more schools to their school list, so I just want to make sure I understand why you don’t want to do that.

Hi pawanpawar,
You’ve a strong score, but you need much more to break into your target schools. I don’t know your professional experience, but your public sector background may work more at ISB. As far as fellowships are concerned, don’t apply with high expectations of landing a solid one. Treat it more as a bonus. As suggested, you’ll have better odds of getting one at schools where your score stands out more. And I agree with others that applying to three schools could be a risky strategy.

Thanks for sharing your profile. You have nice stats which should help you here but given your desire to secure a scholarship you should probably balance out your list of top programs with lower ranked reputed programs that can get you into mgmt consulting AND perhaps give you a shot at some scholarship money. These progrms would give you a better chance to stand out with your top GMAT score. So I would suggest - UVA, Tuck, and maybe Yale
