How reliable are the scores of 800score . com's CAT?

I'm asking because there has been a substantial bump in my score.
Past trend:

Economist-LBS Sample GMAT (June) - 640-670 estimated
Veritas Prep Mock (July W1) - 640
Economist free mock (July W2) - 650

800score mock (today) - 720

That's too big a jump to be real, right?

if you want to really judge your performance use 2 official GMAT mock test , nothing is near to original gmat than those because every organisation has its own standard way of calculating its score.
for ex : I got q42 in GMAT club score with only 19 correct answers in quant
whereas i got q34 in Princeton test even I have 26 correct answers in quant with only 2 wrong in first 10 and last 4 in last 5 questions

Hey axmanX

Welcome to GMATClub!

As far as mock score accuracy is concerned, there is nothing as reliable
as GMATPrep, the mocks offered by GMAC(the makers of GMAT). All the
other mocks are good for practice, but none of them have an algorithm
that compares to the real thing. In my experience, the score deviation is
anything between 70 and 100 points. So, if you are planning to use the
scores in the 800score mock to gauge your current level - I don't think it
is a good idea. Take a GMATPrep(2 free tests available) to gauge your true
level. For more on mocks, check this Post

Hope this helps you!

You could practice by giving as mocks as possible but if you want to prioritize ensure that you have given the 6 mocks from mba.com

All the best!

Hi axmanX,

The scoring algorithm on the Official GMAT is far more complicated than most people realize. Since that algorithm is proprietary, no GMAT company has an exact match for it, thus CAT scores can vary a bit based on the 'biases' involved in their respective designs (and some CATs are less reliable than others). The most realistic CATs available are the 6 from GMAC (the 2 free CATs, and each of the 2 that come with Exam Pack 1 and Exam Pack 2), but the CATs from Kaplan, MGMAT and Veritas are all 'close enough' to the real thing that they will provide you with a relatively realistic score assessment (assuming that you use the CAT correctly).

Beyond that issue, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) How have you scored on EACH of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your goal score?
5) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
7) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi axmanX

I’m glad you reached out, and I’m happy to help. One thing to keep in mind is that when you take practice tests from companies other than GMAC, you may find some variation in algorithms used and thus variations in your score. Before jumping to any conclusions, consider taking an official practice exam from MBA.com to see how your scores compare to those from previous practice exams.

I’m happy to provide some further advice regarding your study plan, but it would be helpful to learn more regarding your GMAT situation.

In the meantime, you may find my article about how to score a 700+ on the GMAT helpful.
