Solution

Given:
    • a = 3b + 2

To find:
    • The value of b, in terms of a

Approach and Working:
From the given equation, we can write:
    • a = 3b + 2
    Or, 3b = a – 2
    Or, b = \(\frac{a}{3} – \frac{2}{3}\)

Hence, the correct answer is option A.

Answer: A

A. \(b =\frac{a}{3}-\frac{2}{3}\)

B. \(b =\frac{a}{3}+\frac{2}{3}\)

C. \(b =\frac{a}{3}-2\)

D. \(b =a-\frac{2}{3}\)

E. \(b =a+\frac{2}{3}\)

\(a = 3b + 2\)

Or, \(3b = a - 2\)

Or, \(b = \frac{a}{3} - \frac{2}{3}\), Answer must be (A)

Given,

a = 3b+2
a-2 = 3b
\(b =\frac{a-2}{3}\)
\(b =\frac{a}{3} - \frac{2}{3}\)

Thus the best answer is A.

Getting b in terms of a, we have:

a = 3b + 2

a - 2 = 3b

a/3 - 2/3 = b
