given (K+x)/2=35; x= 70-K

The sum f the 2 numbers = average of 2 numbers *2
= 35*2
= 70

One of the number is k.

So , another one = 70-k

Thus option D is the best answer.

let second number be a

given (K+a)/2 = 35
a = 70-k

a+k=70
a=70-k

If the average of 2 numbers is 35, then the total of those 2 numbers is 70. if one of those numbers is K then the other should be 70-k. The answer seems to be D.

Hope moderator will provide the explanation for E or change the OA to D.

Let n = the other number. We can create the equation:

(n + k)/2 = 35

n + k = 70

n = 70 - k

Answer: D

Theory: Average = \(\frac{Sum Of All The Values}{Total Number Of Values}\)

If the average (arithmetic mean) of two numbers is 35 and one of the numbers is k
Let other number be x
=> Sum of all the values= k + x

Using, Average = \(\frac{Sum Of All The Values}{Total Number Of Values}\), We get
35 = \(\frac{k+x}{2}\)
=> k + x = 35*2 = 70
=> x = 70-k

So, Answer will be D
