Use backsolving and start from answer option C. We should check Girls - Boys = 6 in the options

C. 8 girls =>Number of boys =14-8 = 6 but this contradicts the condition; Girls - Boys = 6 eliminateC and thus A and B also which are smaller than C.

D. 10 girls=>Number of boys =14-10 = 4 and hence there are 6 more girls than boys.(answer choice)
(option d)

Alternately,
Let there be b boys and g girls.
b+ g =14

g-b = 6

=>g =6+b

b + 6 +b =14

=>b = 4 and g=10
(option d)

The quickest way of thinking about these questions is this:

Split 14 children into 7 each of boys and girls. But there are 6 more girls than boys which means that there are 3 fewer boys and 3 extra girls. So there are 4 boys and 10 girls.

Similarly, we sometimes come across the sum of two numbers as say 60 and their difference as say 8, all we need to do is split 60 into equal halves of 30 each and then take away 4 from one and give it to another. The two numbers become 26 and 34 and so on...

Let boys be x.
Girls = x + 6
x + x + 6 = 14
x = 4
Girls are 10.
Hence, OA is (D).

Correct Answer : D = 10

If there are 6 more girls than boys in a room, and there are 14 boys and girls in the room, how many are girls?

How so many boys will be present, Girls will be more 6 than boys and total of both Boys and Girls is 14

If, it is,
(1 Girls) , (1 Boy) - additional (6 Girls) = (Total 8) - eliminate A
(2 Girls) , (2 Boy) - additional (6 Girls) = (Total 10)
(3 Girls) , (3 Boy) - additional (6 Girls) = (Total 12)
(4 Girls) , (4 Boy) - additional (6 Girls) = (Total 14) - Correct Answer 10 Girls

A. 4
B. 5
C. 8
D. 10
E. 12
