Evaluating statement 1
–2(x + 5) < -1
multiply by -1 on both sides and reverse the sign
2(x+5)>1
x+5>1/2
x>-9/2 Not Sufficient

Evaluating statement 2
– 3x > 9
x<-3 Not Sufficient

using both statements -9/2<x<-3
Since we know x is an integer, the only possible value can be -4.
Hence answer is C.

I have a very silly question about "value" problems.

If the question includes only variables, with no real numbers attached, surely there is no "trick question" attached (finding a number to go with the variable). I'm guessing it is just asking for the simplest definition of a variable (ie no fractions between variables etc). Is this correct?
