x/7 = q + 1

x = 7q + 1

again,

y/7 = p + 2

y = 7p + 2


\(\frac{(x + y)}{7}\)\(\)

= \(\frac{(7q + 1 + 7p + 2)}{7}\)

=\(\frac{( 7q + 7p + 3)}{7}\)

Only 3 is not divisible.

D is the correct answer.

x= 8 and y = 9
would give remainder as 1 and 2 when divided by 7
x+y = 17
17/7 = 3

If x is divided by 7, the remainder is 1. If y is divided by 7, the remainder is 2

X = 7 I + 1
Y = 7 I + 2

You can take values as x=1, y = 2 or x = 15, y =16

X+Y = 7I + 3

Given that If x is divided by 7, the remainder is 1. If y is divided by 7, the remainder is 2. And we need to find What is the remainder if x + y is divided by 7

If x is divided by 7, the remainder is 1

x -> Dividend
7 -> Divisor
a -> Quotient (Assume)
1 -> Remainders
=> x = 7*a + 1 = 7a + 1

If y is divided by 7, the remainder is 2

y -> Dividend
7 -> Divisor
b -> Quotient (Assume)
2 -> Remainders
=> y = 7*b + 2 = 7b + 2

What is the remainder if x + y is divided by 7

x + y = 7a + 1 + 7b + 2 = 7*(a + b) + 3

=> x + y gives 3 as remainder when divided by 7

So, Answer will be D
