Hi All,

I have taken the Kaplan course for 1500$ and got a 610 twice on the real GMAT after all the Kaplan practice exams. Kaplan Math was very good, but the Kaplan verbal sucked.

I work full time and have 2 kids. I spent a lot of time and effort and I did put in over 15+ hours for 8 weeks when I got my first 610.

Now I am waitlisted at UC Berkeley and am thinking about retaking my GMAT. I hated taking the Kaplan practice exams because they always demoralized me. Now I am reading some of the posts on this forum and am getting the impression Manhattan GMAT is better than Kaplan.

Can you folks please your opinion on Kaplan vs manhattan gmat? I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and am considering taking the Manhattan GMAT course.

Hi All,

I did not get any responses to my query regarding Manhattan GMAT. AS I have mentioned I have already taken the Kaplan course and taken the real GMAT a few times now. I hated Kaplan, because it demoralized and stressed me out. And the verbal on Kaplan sucks big time. It really doesn't compare with the real GMAT.

Infact with the Kaplan verbal I scored pretty average and real bad in the math. But on the real gmat I scored very well in the math section and real bad on the verbal section. I repeatedly do badly in the verbal section, although I speak english like a native speaker.

Now I am thinking about taking the Manhattan GMAT course and retaking the GMAT in September. Would appreciate comments on Manhattan GMAT vs Kaplan.

I think you should just purchase the GMAT books on Amazon.com and practice with the SC1000/DS1000/PS1000 documents found on this forum. Almost every question is answered on this forum. Use the search button.

The advantage of taking a classroom course for people like me who have been out of school for 10 years is that it is structured. It forces you to attend class at a certain time, finish your home work at a certain time, take the practice exams etc etc.

With 2 kids and a full time job, you have a natural tendency to postpone studying and take the kids to the park or something along those lines. For me, money is not really that much of a concern. I need to make a good 700 score and I would prefer a structured environment where I can get away from my home, get some peace and quiet and actually concentrate on the material.

My main question was "Is Manhattan GMAT material better than Kaplan material" ? From some of the past reviews, it sounds like Manhattan GMAT material is somewhat better and I am asking for a comparison between Manhattan and Kaplan.

I do plan to take a look at the sc/rc and other material from this forum. But, I haven't really looked at the questions/answers yet. Are the answers explained?

I definitely think you should get all the manhattan series.All eight books then maybe you should take their course(maybe)but absolutely up your study time.
