Hi gmattodreamschool, your quant score in isolation should not be a huge concern; however, you can try a re-attempt and see how it goes. Your Verbal score was clearly your big savior:).

If you are working in R&D sector of automobile segment, you really need to think thru in terms of what exactly you want out of your MBA. After all, you seem to be largely (if not solely) in a technical profile.

So, what is it about management education that has piqued your interest. This articulation needs to come out very well in ISB's Goals essay.

Hey,

It will be great if someone could help me in evaluating my profile for ISB.

I'm working as a software engineer at the Adobe. Been a part of Adobe Acrobat Team for 4 years and worked on PDF (Both in Quality and Development) and its related solutions. Have worked cross-functionally with other teams within my company and outside my company.

Academic Stats -

USICT Btech CSE(Class of 2015) - 78%
Class 12th - 92.6%
Class 10th - 89.6%

Why MBA?
Interested in changing my vertical to Product Management, Strategy and also I have an interest in Business Analytics.
Also, it would great if someone could share and guide me regarding my further steps for the GMAT prep and its timeline. :)

Hi Adeep,

I'd like to know more details about your work experience to understand its unique aspects. You are applying from the most competitive applicant pool, so there have to be some spike factors that strengthen your case. In addition, are there any extra curriculars that you are passionately involved in and have made some impact?
Also your career goals are wide and spread out. you have talked about different functions. For the sake of application you will have to come up with one coherent goal that makes most sense with your past experience in consideration

Thanks for the preliminary evaluation.

[*]I have worked on the development of the features and has been the creator of different frameworks that have helped in the cutting down the manual effort by a great margin in different phases of the Software Cycle of different features that I have worked with the Adobe Acrobat Team.
[*]I have also led various projects with being sole-point of contact.
[*]Worked on hacks in Coding hackathons on ideas which have been chosen and shipped in the market releases too.

Besides this, in my extracurriculars, I'm an avid fan of football and I've represented my company in Football tournaments and outside my companies too.

For the answer to why MBA my coherent goal to derive and drive innovations from customer's wish to reality. And that's what has intrigued and piqued my interest in the Product Management while working with Product Management division. I've interacted with the various customers worldwide both regular and enterprise, via Forums and meetings to realize their sentiment and pain points while using our products through data-driven analytics to come up with better and efficient daily solutions.

Hoping this clears your asks and concerns. Let me know if there are any other concerns that I should address and keep in mind while applying in ISB.

Also, it'll be great if you could share with me the score I should target for getting admission in ISB.

Hi rajshreesweta, would urge you to consider re-attempting GRE, to push that score by at least 3-4 points.

Your experience is slightly on the lower side and while rest of your profile seems very good, why let few GRE marks come between you and your aspirations?

Hi ajayps77

Although you have way more experience than the ISB average (in fact, 4 times as much), your unique background and accomplishments mean that you could well be among those 5-10 exceptional people that ISB takes in irrespective of the quantity of work experience, because the quality of work experience far supersedes it. A 680 may work very well for you. Your key goal will be to show an Army to civilian life transition, and what role an MBA would help you achieve.

Hi spkumar

This score may not be enough for ISB. You are also on the higher side of work-ex for IIMB/C. IIMA would need a higher score (680+). The rest of your profile seems ok from what you have described, but as the UG score is somewhat lower a higher GMAT for that and other reasons would be helpful.

Hi Ajay, you don't need to reappear in GMAT.

The reason is that your USP is your experience.

ISB may still reject your candidature, if it concludes that your experience is already so much that a MBA might not add any significant value to your profile.

Or

ISB may be extremely willing to have you in the batch, since you have demonstrated leadership experience.

In either case, 20 additional points on GMAT are not going to be of much value towards your candidature.

Do work on your essays around Operations Management. You have a very strong Operations background and ISB offers Operations as a specialization as well.

- Your academics (the Master's in the US helps as well) are quite good, and even though you will be considered an IT applicant, digital payments is a good area to be in.
- A 690 could well work in your case but you will need to explain why you need an Indian MBA now, and what you plan to achieve post MBA.
- The part-time experience will not count in the total experience for ISB (as ISB considers only post-qualification experience).
- The ECA will need a closer look. From what you've described, this does not seem a strong plank. Please provide more details here if possible.

Hi there!

I am looking to apply in the R1 applications for 2020 intakes. Would love to get a profile evaluation from experts in the forum.

Age: 25 yr

GMAT Score: Scheduled for 31st August(expecting 720+ based on mocks score analysis)

Educational Qualifications:

Graduation: Completed B.Tech in Information Technology from VIT University, Vellore in 2017 with 8.4 CGPA.
H.S.C: secured 80.8% in Science stream from CBSE Board in 2012.
S.S.C: secured 9.4 CGPA from CBSE Board in 2010.
Pursuing M.A. Economics from the Indira Gandhi National Open University

Work Experience:
1) Chief Technology Officer at AM Legal Attorneys(June 2019 to current): Involved in bagging high name clients in AM Legal's consulting/Legal practices. I led the setting up of the startup consulting practice under 'The Startup Samurai' banner, which has gone onto bag several assignments in marketing, angel investments and advisory domains.

2) Business Technology Analyst at Deloitte Consulting(January 2017 to August 2017 as full time Business Technology Intern and then from August 2017 to June 2019 as Full Time Hire): Worked with major Fortune 500 clients from Consumer and Industrial Products vertical in consulting domain. Handled large volumes of data for the clients , wrote complex business logic and database queries. Some of the domains I worked on include data analytics, data warehousing, data conversions and other deliverables such as reports, dashboards and Interfaces. I have received constant praise from the client and have been awarded client awards by every client team I have worked with.

3) Co-Founder at Inlitho(January 2016 to April 2017): Started a profitable print aggregation model based startup in college which went onto doing a 6 figure revenue within a month of inception with an initial investment of just 10000.

Extra Curricular:
1) Part time volunteer with NGO working with parentless children in District Ambala in Haryana for the past 12 years. During this period I have worked on arranging funds, conducting classes on computers and other subjects such as Maths for primary school students. To be provided a full time trustee position in the trust in lieu of my work.

2) Volunteer and speaker at Institute for Industrial Development, Delhi( a part of govt. of India's MSME): I have conducted sessions on the Printing Industry, How to bag venture capital and Startups Leaders: How to follow in their path etc. at the Incubation division of IID.

3) State Level Under 19 Cricket Player: Won 3 major tournaments across Punjab state tournaments. Also winner of Deloitte Sports Tournaments and other corporate tournaments.

More about me: As my dad was in a transferable job I got the opportunity to live across a number of cities in India. This has made me good at making new friends and meeting new people. I love to debate on varied topics and love to write poetry. I am also an avid reader of biographies and auto biographies.
My ultimate life goal is to be a successful entrepreneur.

Any suggestions on what kind of things I can focus on in my essay would also be really helpful.

Thanks for sharing your profile.
I am an ISB alum, C014 and have been assisting applicants in their admission journeys since.
Below is my take on your profile:
GMAT: Assuming you will manage 720, it will be very competitive
Academics : Average (not sure how M.A Economics from IGNOU fits into the rest of your profile)
Work Experience: Diverse
Extra curricular: Average
While for most of the elements you will get a hygiene check, the admission committee would be most interested in knowing your story – essentially the different career moves you have made in the past – your rationale behind them and how ISB fits into your goals.
You will need to justify how you decided to make a move from being a BTA in Deloitte to the CTO of a legal firm when you do not have a prior background in Law. Also, after just spending only 2-3 months in the firm at a management position, what has motivated you to do a MBA.
Short and Long term career goals post MBA needs to be absolutely clear and logical in your mind and you will need to present in the essays and rest of the application how your past when complemented with PGP from ISB will catapult you towards those goals.
A logical flow of events in the form of a story is a must to draft an impressionable application.
