Hi biorevanth,

Your overall profile is pretty good. The fact that you have a Master's degree will help further. The entrepreneurship plank, in your case, will only add to your profile and strengthen it further.

While applicants with GMAT scores of less than 700 do also make it to ISB every year, we would suggest 700 as a good target to aim for. Of course, the higher the better, so if you can cross that, your chances strengthen further.

Thanks a lot for your reply and yes I am aiming nothing short of 700.

Hi All,

I am a master degree holder in Biotechnology from a UK University, followed by co-founding a start up company in hyderabad, in 2010. Since then, I have served my company in the capacity of Head/Director - Operations. The company is a CRO (Clinical Research Organisation), which basically provides various services for Pharmaceutical & Biotech Companies. Now I decided to pursue my long term goal of doing an MBA in ISB. I am currently ready to take my GMAT very shortly. But I am not sure if my entrepreneur profile suits the program and if yes, what is the GMAT score I must target? My academics are :
SSC - 86%
+2 - 86%
B.Tech - 70%
In total, I have around 5 years of experience in Operational and Business Development acitvities at my company. Any evaluation would be very much appreciated.

Hi there,

Your experiences at the UK university and the start up are going to be valuable at ISB. My understanding of the CRO space in India is that the sector has been through a bumpy ride since the past ten years. That you have sustained for five plus years is impressive and I am sure this will give you many good stories to tell in the application.

When you finally apply, just keep in mind to explain why you need an MBA and why from ISB? Also, doing an MBA itself is not a career goal (definitely not long term). Its only a means to take you on a path of larger greatness, which could be growing your company by X times in the next Y years.

The higher the GMAT, the better- aim for a 700+

Hi Priya,

Our reply may be late.

While your work ex looks fine GMAT score of 660 for an IT profile is way below average. So, we recommend that retake GMAT and get a 700+.

Your GMAT score will let you down. While MDI may still be possible, we dont see a chance at ISB with less than 670 / 680 and at IIMs with less than a 700.

Hi..

Thanks for the reply.

As suggested by you, I have gone thru the website of MDI Gurgaon. I think they accept the GMAT score for NRI candidates only. However I am a professional working in India.

Also, I am considering to apply for IIM Udaipur (Supply chain Management), my work experience being 4 yrs in supply chain management (Procurement Cell).

Thanks..

You should target a 710+ on GMAT. Public sector experience will help you. R&D experience makes the profile sound technical and you will have to ensure that your goals are thought through and some achievements highlight business acumen, teamwork and leadership.

Dont worry about certificates for competitions. If you can talk through the activities then no paper is needed.

Decent profile, but considering the deadlines, hope you are already in the thick of preparing for GMAT, and not just at the contemplation stage.

This is just based on the details posted here.

Your profile parameters look fine overall. The 14 month Australia experience definitely helps. On the GMAT front, try to push the score above 700 to have a stronger chance, though a 680 will give you a shot too.

Hi Nitin,

While International experience will help, 680 on GMAT may weaken the overall candidature. So, we would recommend that you retake GMAT. You still have close to 2 months for R2 deadline.

From what I understand of the admission process, you have a good chance due to different profile, good acads, good cca including philanthropy and sports, and a pretty above average gmat (700 is average, in India! ). From the way you bring out yourself and the goal, the interview also should not be difficult.
Now what stands between the seat and you is one good reco and some good essays, and a run against the clock for the next deadline!
How that helps. Good luck :)
