Hi,
I recently got an email from UCLA saying one of my recommendation was submitted. I sent a thank you note to my recommender for this and discovered an unpleasant truth.
He told me that he actually wanted to submit Darden but acidentally submitted UCLA. Here's what happened - He did his recommendations on a word doc. When it came time to copy them onto the application online, he actually copied darden's reommendation into UCLA's page and submitted it. Clearly both colleges have different questions and i am seriously worried that the way he copy pasted stuff would not make sense.
He told me that he is not able to make ammendments anymore. Apparently he emailed the admissions committee informing them the issue. However iam getting very uneasy about this. The deadline is on the 11th and i'll be flying on a buiness trip that day. I need to complete my applications by end of monday. Ad com wont reply till monday.
Should i also email the Adcom myself?
BTW it also occurred to me if it'll be alright to open a new application on a different email Id with the same recommenders and complete it ASAP. It is possible for me to finish it since all that i need to do is to copy paste stuff from my old application.
Please advise, am getting desperate!
Arun
Arun,
I have had a very similar experience. My recommender submitted Ross's recommendation file to NYU. I called and emailed NYU about this error and they said that the recommender can submit the correct file to an email address they specified. This new file will replace the incorrect recommendation letter in my file.
I think schools understand that these things sometimes do happen and they don't hold it against you. My advise would be to give UCLA a call on Monday and explain your situation to them. If your recommender on the other hand is adamant that he wont submit a new one, i would say that is when you have a problem. From the school's perspective, i feel they will give you another chance.
