Twice a year Notre Dame MBAs participate in an Interterm Intensive program. It's an amazing experience and a chance for students to interface directly with top executives at major companies to take a crack at solving real-world problems.
Every year Notre Dame hosts a competition, open to public, to give a glance into this experience. There are real prizes, including a rather attractive fellowship to prospective MBA students.
This year the client is Microsoft and the prizes are pretty decent.

Also important to note: Receive a Notre Dame MBA application fee waiver just for competing. This may be worth it alone. Good Luck to everyone, looks like this is a great opportunity for the prospective students

And you get a laptop and xbox360 if you win. Really? xbox360? Surprised they didn't throw in bag of doritos and case of mountain dew.

Hey! I appeared for the gmat first time last month. I had a bad experience because I got only a 610 due to some misfortune. But I got an e-mail from Notre Dame saying that I am a preferred candidate!
I was surprised because according to the statistics Notre Dame accepts score above 670 or so. How come I got this e-mail?
P.S. I am a female from a diverse background and a good academic profile.

And we are not looking just at a GMAT score. We are looking at a range of factors because students aren't just GMATs. Everything from your educational background, to your self-reported work experience and GPA's and demographic info. We make preferred candidate designations based on the entire package - not just on the GMAT.
The 80% GMAT range for our admitted students last year was 620 to 760, so it's pretty broad.
We do send a number of letters but it's surely not to the entire test taking population. There is selectivity to it. The bottom line is that the letter is real. It's not a guarantee of anything because the info we get from GMASS is incomplete - in fact we don't even know your actual GMAT until you report it to us. We just know it's in a certain range. But if you get the letter, I would encourage you to apply because something in your profile is similar to what other admitted students had. And the only way to find out if you will be admitted is to actually apply.
Hope this clarifies what's behind the letter. Have a good weekend!

Why is this thread so dead?
Anyway, I just finished my interview with ND. Quite friendly and conversational. Some questions - 1. Why ND? 2. Describe professional experience. 3. What is the best and worst team you have worked with? 4. What makes team function better? 5. An example where you had disagreement with team and how you handled it. 6. Discussion about Ayn Rand, Wolframalpha etc. (Stuff from my resume) 7. What are your interests? 8. A case question. 9. Questions for Ad Com?

My application status has also changed to 'decision rendered', but I have yet to receive a decision. In all likelihood, it's a systems issue; they have processed your application and will send a decision today (the 22nd) this morning by way of email. I wouldn't fret.
