LBS recently released their
2023 MBA Employment report. I've analyzed it and noted down 5 key takeaways below.
As a baseline, the 2023 LBS MBA class size was 512 students, with an average 5.6 years work-ex pre-MBA.

1. Snapshot, Career Switches- 90% grads accepted an offer within three months of graduation, 91% received an offer within three months of graduation, 85% that accepted an offer received other compensation/bonuses, and 37 graduates were self-employed or started their own business.

- 50% of graduates switched location, 55% switched sectors, and 30% switched location and sector upon graduation.2. Sectoral & Geographic Splits
- The LBS MBA Class of 2023 witnessed a range of career paths, with 45% venturing into Consulting, 26% into Finance, 21% into Technology, 7% each into Investment Banking & Private Equity, 5% into Investment Management, 4% each into Venture Capital & Internet/ e-commerce, among others.
- 55% found a role in the UK, 12% in Asia, 10% in North America, 8% in Europe (exc. UK), 7% each in Latam & Africa/ Middle-East and 1% in Ocenia.
3. Salary by Industry- In terms of compensation, the mean overall salary stood at £99,333.
- Consulting and Finance led the way with £104,427 and £100,268 mean salaries, respectively. The Technology sector followed closely with a mean salary of £90,240. 4. Top Employers- In terms of # of hires, MBB i.e. Mckinsey, BCG and Bain were the top-3 employers with 64, 37 and 35 hires respectively. This was followed by other consulting firms including Deloitte, Keraney, Accenture, Strategy&, LEK etc.
- Within Finance, top employers included Morgan Stanley (5 hires), Goldman Sachs (4), PIMCO (3), Brookfield Asset Management (2), Citi (2), Financial Technology Partners (2) among others.
- In the tech side, top employers were Amazon (14 hires), Wipro (4), Mastercard (3), American Express (2), Tiktok (2), Liberty Global (2) among others.
- Within the "Diversified" sector, Saudi Aramco (3 hires), Eli Lilly & Co (2) and Vitol Group (2) were the top employers of LBS MBA grads.
5. Entrepreneurship
- 37 (i.e ~7%) MBA 2023 grads went on to become Entrepreneurs.
- 35% of them founded a company in the Technology sector (covering IT & Services, Climate-tech, Edtech, Fintech, e-commerce), followed by 21% in Finance, 15% in Consumer & Retail, 12% in Industrials, 6% in Healthcare among others.
- Geographically, 44% of the entrepreneurs decided to base their companies in the UK, 36% in South Asia, 12% in North America, and 4% each in Africa/ Middle-East & SE/ E Asia.Hope this helps provide a glimpse of the employment scene at the LBS MBA!
