While there are clearly some self-serving aspects for GMAC to collect your data in this way, you might also consider how providing this information might be beneficial to you. Considering how many applications most Programs tend to receive, you don't want to make it more difficult for Admissions Committee members to remember who you are. For example, if you graduated from a prestigious School and/or had a high GPA, then having that information right next to your GMAT Score could make it easier for an Admissions Officer to remember/recognize you (and your profile). From an application standpoint, it can sometimes be difficult to 'stand out' from the crowd - and an individual piece of data (re: a strong GMAT Score) will likely not stand out on its own (unless you're in the 750+ range). The option to make multiple pieces of your profile information more 'convenient to see' could ultimately make the difference in whether you are accepted to a particular Program or not.
