According to last year's topic, they come in waves. Usually international applicants get the invite during the first waves. However, this is not a rule and Wharton never announces that it will be that way. It's just based on observation of previous years/rounds.

Do Lauder applicants participate in the group discussion as part of the interview process or do they just do one interview with Lauder and one with Wharton?

Any other Lauder folks on this thread?

Lauder applicant for the global program with Korean and Spanish language here.
I assume most of Lauder applicants have passed the OPI test [advanced or above].
Fascinated to learn that there are so many brilliant candidates with global exposure and foreign language profficiency! :-D
It also means greater competition for admission, but after all, it is Wharton. It's worth a shot.
I gave it my all, so no regrets.

is the Round 2 pool generally more competitive than Round 1? Or is it the other way round...

Generally speaking, Round 1 has less applicants vs. Round 2. The round 1 and round 2 interview invites are usually even.

If we assume quality of applicants of round 1 is the same as round 2, then round 2 would be considered slightly more competitive due to increased volume of applicants.

I doubt that Round 2 is more competitive than Round 1. From what I have been able to gather from those that should know, it is very unlikely that someone who would have been interviewed in Round 1 would not have been called for interview in Round 2.

I have spoken with 2 second years recently at a info session happy hour at a top 10 school where 2nd years are very integral part of the process, round 2 is more competitive at this particular school.

Just to go back to my previous point, if they will send out 800 interviews round 1 and 800 interviews round 2, and you have 2000 apps in round 1 and 3200 apps in round 2, mathematically, it will be more competitive if the pool of applicants are the same.

You're assuming they interview and admit the same number of students each round. I think that is incorrect. They save more seats, thus more interview slots, for round 2 because AOs know there are more applicants. They interview and admit proportionally to the number of applicants in each round.

I'm not assuming, there is a ton of data out there already...

https://hbsguru.com/blog/category/hbs-in ... ce/page/3/ details HBS interview invite volume. I can find quotes from admissions from multiple top 10 schools whom send the same amount of invites for round 1 and round 2.

I guess the 'competitiveness' also depends to a large extent on the quality of the applicant pool in each round irrespective of the volume of applications. So for a fair comparison we would need to have the quality metrics similar in each round.

While not strictly about Wharton, the article below suggests that the applicants in Round 1 have some significant advantages over the applicants in Round 2 -- and at least in terms of *interest and preparation* the Round 1 applicants form a stronger pool to draw from than the Round 2 applicants.

IDK if I am totally convinced, but FWIW:

"Early applications show serious interest and planning. In this round, you may have the greatest statistical chance, since you're only being compared to the current candidate pool.

In fact, a former Chicago Booth School of Business admissions committee member says the committee accepted 65 percent of Booth's students during this round.

For applicants to second-tier schools, the top 20 to 40, applying in the first round conveys that the school is a top choice and could result in a scholarship, says a former committee member at the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business."

Hate to repeat a question already asked by IvyTexan above but... didn't seem we had an clarity.

Anyone have an idea how the roll out of invitations works? Is it a 1 Day/week, 5 Days/week, etc?

I didn't see any info on this from anything that was communicated by the admissions office. Any insight would be appreciated.

Last year there were 5 fairly large invite batches.

First invites on the first day were mostly for international applicants to give them enough time to arrange travel to their respective hub (below is last year's interview hub schedule), this was 22nd of Oct 2012
Mumbai, India November 6 - 8, 2012
New Delhi, India November 9, 2012
Mexico City, Mexico November 12 - 13, 2012
Sao Paulo, Brazil November 15 - 16, 2012
Shanghai, China November 12 - 15, 2012
Seoul, South Korea November 9, 2012
Singapore November 14 -16, 2012
Tokyo, Japan November 12, 2012
London, United Kingdom November 12 -15, 2012
Dubai, United Arab Emirates November 19 - 20, 2012
San Francisco, California November 12 -16, 2012

2nd batch on 29th of Oct 2012
3rd batch on Nov 1st 2012
4th batch on Nov 4th 2012
5th batch Nov 6th 2012
Dings sent out in a single batch on Nov 9th 2012

In other words, no need for us to freak out till Nov 4th-ish this year?

Our chances, as international applicants, will be very low if we don't get an invite during the first waves. However, I've read in last years' topic about a couple of cases where international applicants were invited the last day.

One more day!!!
