All this may be more psychological than practical. When it comes to evaluation, I believe admissions people at Wharton are smart enough to make the right choices. Wharton as a brand should be able to survive the test of times without need for too much tinkering around.

I know but business schools are also finally business. Since the avg GMAT/GPA is used as a metric for quality of students by ranking agencies, and ranking do influence applicants, I am a bit concerned. Though the terror is more for GMAT in the mid 600's, I wonder if in case of tie higher GMAT wins? Also to note that admission's consultants should ideally trumpet the holistic nature of application- coz that what gets them business finally. Instead they are saying score higher, speculative yes. Logical maybe.

Is this good news or bad news to those who applied using GRE?!!!!!!!!!! Since we are not contributing to any GMAT data points, are we out of the game?!!!

Guys, I really think you're overreacting to the recent news out of Wharton. Certainly the school still gives you a blue chip name on your resume. Prestige isn't something that comes and goes year over year; that is called trends. I'm sure most of you agree that Wharton isn't trendy, its prestigious. The employers that look to hire Wharton grads (by the way, they're still lining up around the block to get a W grad), remember the Wharton of the last 15-20 years, not the Wharton that WSJ is depicting today. In other words, it is still a top tier MBA program.

On the admissions front, yes, it is a bit disconcerting that Ms. Kumar left the week before round 1 applications were due, it doesn't change everything. There are still 10-15 admissions employees left at Wharton who are committed to filling Wharton with the best candidates they can get. They are not incompetent, and know how to evaluate a candidate beyond your GMAT and GPA. Certainly the school would not want to see GMAT numbers drop this year, but do you really think they're going to sacrifice their golden goose - the Wharton experience - to protect a portion of what goes into rankings?

At the end of the day, yes, it is upsetting what is being reported at Wharton. But you shouldn't be overly concerned about the changes.

Does anyone have a clue as to when Wharton plans to notify Round 1 applicants of interview decisions? I assume it will be sometime around the end of October or early November?

The email the admissions staff sent said Oct 22nd - Nov 7th would be the interview invite period.

Sigh-8 more days until those emails will really be scary!

Seems likely that anyone that submitted for the R1 deadline received the email.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw it. Terrifying!

Yes my stomach flipped when I saw the subject line of the email. I thought I had at least a week to hear back from them about interview dates so it was pretty scary. We all know what those vaguely worded subjects can mean...
If Wharton unfortunately wants to deny someone without an interview, any ideas on when they'd start notifying denials?

They usually notify denials the last day. That would be November 7th.
