Hi all,
I've just come back from the test center and got the decent score 700 (Q50, V35).
This score is exactly what my target is, even in the sub-scores. Because I am preparing for the CFA Lv1 in December and because the University (MSc) requires at least 700 to grant scholarship, I consider retaking the test in February . Hence 700+ may be more advantageous? Right?
Starting point: 5 August
GMATPREP 1: Q50 - V21- 600
Before this attempt, I had just finished reading Manhattan SC and Powerscore CR and had not prepared for Q.
Therefore, I knew that I had to entirely focus on Verbal.
Material Review:Manhattan SC and Powerscore CR: yes, definitely.
Aristotle RC 99: tried about 20 passages during two first week in October: It is not exactly the same type of GMAT Questions but can improve reading comprehension ability.
Question pack 1: Absolutely worth purchase. I used it in order to become familiar with GMAC's fashion during the last week.
Gmatclub.com: Yes, without this forum, I would not touch 700. To have motivation, just go to "share experience". To pratice, just go to sub-forum
.
I found lot of brilliant reasoning in CR here. Thank you all.
GMAT Paper tests: Good CR and RC, but Ron does not highly recommend SC because of its old fashion.
Thursday with Ron: very useful videos. When Ron says, all things become crystal clear.
Test debrief:AWA With chineseburned's template, AWA came smoothly without much loss of energy.
IR: I did not prepare for this section because for me, IR is unimportant. Hence, randomly ticked several questions. I don't know how it could be 7/8
Took the first break.
Quant: Because I'm not so bad at Quant, I First question took me 4 minutes because of my silly mistake (like 1+ 1/3 = 4/9). Toward the end of this section, I noticed some very easy problems.
I managed to finish this section with 8 minutes remaining, guessing two ridiculously hard permutation/combination (data sufficiency) problems.
Verbal: This is the real party for me. During all this section, my heart was beating so hard
.
CR's and SC's difficulty is between the hard and medium level in GMATPREP. Some SC questions are very ugly. I didn't have any boldface
RC, this is my weakest area I faced two lengthy RC, about 70 lines about law and T-rex.
I had to sacrifice accuracy of some SC to follow the timeline.
Result:
IR 7
Q 50
V 35
Total 700
AWA 5.5
Total study hours: ~200h because my comprehension in RC and CR premises is poor.
FYI, I include here my
CAT score:18/8

MGMAT 6 690 (Q45- V37)
16/10 GMAT PREP 2 640 (Q50-V28) I was so shocked with verbal. So I decided to purchase Question Pack 1 to practice more :D
19/10 Booked the test
21/10 GMAT PREP 2 760 (Q51 - V42) Inflated verbal score with 4 questions repeated and some correct guesses
24/10 GMAT PREP 1 720 (Q50 - V38) No repeated question. This result boosts my confidence before enjoying the real party
I will be back to beat it.
Good luck to those who are fighting GMAT.
P/S: I am very poor at writing, so forgive me
