Took my exam this past Friday (didn't realize it was Friday the 13th) and scored a 710 (Q49, V38) with an IR6. Already scheduled my retake for March 17th though as I am really trying to boost my score as high as possible.
I scored in the mid 700 range a few times on GMATPrep exams (2
760, 1 @ 750) and a Veritas Prep exam (1 @ 740), but had a lot of anxiety on test day after I struggled on the first few IR questions. All of my previous CATs were taken at my normal exam time and I made sure to take the full 4 hour exam.
Any advice on how to best prepare mentally for the exam? I have a few more weeks where I am going to make sure I stay fresh on all of the material and definitely get my verbal as high as possible.
Anybody have any good recommendations for 700+ level verbal questions? I am starting to make my way through the
GMAT Club tests which are brutal but really just need anything that will help me get above V41 in a month.
Thanks for all of the help!
Hey,
I just took my GMAT for the second time on Saturday and scored a 760 (49Q, 45V) and found the verbal part to be incredibly easy. I would say that what you need to do is make sure that:
1) You don't freak out on test day. Understand that most individuals take the test roughly three times before being admitted into an elite business school. Take your chances and then take those chances more than once. I went from a 680 on my first try to a 760 on my second try a month later.
2) Make sure that you challenge yourself by reading complicated and well-written essays/magazines/books. You need to get a "sixth sense" feel for a lot of the verbal problems.
3) Use certain providers that are better than others at teaching the verbal side. I personally found Kaplan and GMATPill to be great at the verbal section while I found the Kaplan material to lack substantially in quant. But, from your score, quant isn't a big deal.
Just keep at it, study hard, and don't give up. Also, don't freak out. I know it's harder said than done but I am convinced that freaking out during the first attempt was why I didn't get a 760 the first time. Get a good night's rest, eat well, wake up early the day-of, and make sure to keep the exam in perspective.
