=> X's score = 2X + 14. A = X's score of the first half of the game

=> Y's score = X's score + 4
(1) + (2) => Cannot know the final score between X and Y
=> Ans: E

Question Type: What Is the Value? This question asks for the final score of a game between two teams, X and Y.

Given information from the question stem: This question is seeking a specific value for the final score in game between team X and team Y.

you a score for either team X or Team Y. Eliminate choices A and D.

I came up with the answer C

1) lets take two half of x scores as X1 & X2

X2 = X1+14

Not Sufficient

2) scores are tied at the end of first half

X1 = Y1

Team Y scored 4 points more than X

Y1 + Y2 = X1 + X2 + 4

this is also not sufficient. But if you combine both

Y1 + Y2 = Y1 + Y1 + 14 + 4

Y1 + Y2 = 18

Final Score of Y is 18.

Sufficient///////

Please correct me if am wrong

you are wrong in coloured portion..

Y1 + Y2 = Y1 + Y1 + 14 + 4 means Y2=2*Y1+18-Y1....Y2=Y1+18...

---- First half --- Second half --- Final
X ---- 10 ------------ 24 ------------- 34

Y ---- 10 ------------ 28 ------------- 38

---- First half --- Second half --- Final
X ---- 20 ------------ 34 ------------- 54

Y ---- 20 ------------ 38 ------------- 58

The final score in the first case is 34:38, while in the second case is 54:58.

Statement 1. Since we don’t know the exact score of Team X and the score of Team Y remained unmentioned of, we cannot answer this question using statement 1 alone.
Statement 2. We cannot figure out the score of Team X and Team Y by statement 2. Hence, Insufficient.
Statement 1 & 2 together. Using statement 2 let’s take score to be equal at ‘a-a’ at the end of first half.
Now by statement 1, the score of team X at the end of the game must be a + 14.
Using statement 2 we can say that the score of team Y at the end of the game must be a + 18.
Since, we don’t know the value of a, we cannot calculate the final scores. Hence, Insufficient.
