Re: Ask University of British Columbia Sauder School Admissions [#permalink]
Hello

I am planning to apply for last round for UBC MBA Class 2016. I took Gmat last year, and got 550, but my Verbal score is 23(31%). I was wondering what are my chances to get accepted in the program. the following are my additional Info:

1- Civil Engineering graduate from UBC
2- Have 2 years of work experience in Iraq ( I am Iranian)
3- have traveled around the world (Does it even Help?)
4- Have a clear goal and good references

Please let me know if I do have any real chance or should I just take the gmat again and wait for next year?

Re: Ask University of British Columbia Sauder School Admissions [#permalink]
Hello,

I am an MBA aspirant and UBC Sauder is one of the B-Schools on my radar. I wish to know the nature of a typical "competitive" profile. Say for example, my profile goes like this:
-> Graduate in Engineering with 79.7% (First Class with Honours) from India
-> Till now I have 20 months of Work Experience, but let's say by the time I apply it will be around 40 months
-> I work in Management Consulting with a 'Big Four', in the Energy sector practice in India
-> I have not yet taken GMAT but I expect my score to be around 680 - 710
Is it even worth applying with such a profile?

Thanks!

Hi UBCMBA,
I have given GMAT last week and got 650 (Q47, V32).
I am an Indian citizen and working in India. I have 10+ years of experience in the Telecom industry and working as a Project Manager in a US based MNC.
I am managing multiple international projects and handling a team of 15 people.

I would like to apply to UBC this season for full-time MBA.
I have few queries before I decide.
1) Shall I get a work permit, after completion of the MBA from UBC?
2) I would like to know, what are the chances of getting the job in the Canada after the MBA (10+ years, Project Manager, Telecom industry) .
3) How much is the MBA from UBC is valued in the Canada (outside BC) ?

I really appreciate if you could answer the queries, or guide me to approach suitable person to ask these queries.

I believe you have a decent profile and a decent undergrad. You should concentrate on your undergrad now> however, if you think you can improve your score it wont do you any harm!

Hi Guys,

Now that the race for MBA program has begun I believe many of you have already taken the GMAT and are looking into the application process.
Many of us move toward various consultancy services to guide us in the application process. These services are very costly and to add to it they don't really provide a deeper insight into the pros and cons of the universities.
All we can do is find current student/Alumni on LinkedIn and just hope that they do get back to us.
Lets say they do revert but many a times due to time crunch they are not able to help us properly.
I recently came across a website which targets exactly this aspect of the whole process.
This website has current students and alumni of all top notch universities registered with them.
You can choose your mentor on it and work on your application under their guidance. They help you in creating your stories and with the intricacies of the universities that are best know to them. Moreover, the provide editing service as well. All this at a much lower price than the what the normal consultancy services charge.
Go through the website https://www.appdeft.com.
You can find the details on this website.
By the way I have a deferred admit from Sauder so feel free to shoot any question and I will help you in the best possible way.
I hope you guys will find this site helpful.

Thanks

sghosal99: If you are targeting Sauder with this profile then I believe you have a decent chance of getting in. Your profile looks strong enough and I don't think you need to retake gmat.
However, your application plays a very crucial role in determining you success or failure.
I would say reach out to current students or alumnis. I don't think Sauder is know for strategy management.
So make your choice carefully!

Thank you for your response. I need another information . I have completed my 4 years of under graduation in an English Language state university in India. I can produce the official email sent directly from our registrar's office to the adcom. Do I need to take the English proficiency test.

For sauder I don't think you need to retake gmat. If you can pitch your achievments well in your application. For Rotman I would say a 700+ would help you a great deal!

I am not sure about McGill, but you've got good chances with Schulich with your current score. One of my friends got into Schulich with a 680, but profile not nearly half as good as yours. So yes, Schulich is within your reach.
