If a and b are odd integers, which of the following must be an even integer?

A. a(b – 2)
B. ab + 4
C. (a + 2)(b – 4)
D. 3a + 5b
E. a(a + 6)

Let’s analyze each answer choice:

A) We have odd x odd = odd.

B) We have odd + 4 = odd.

C) We have odd x odd = odd.

D) We have 3(odd) + 5(odd) = odd + odd = even.

Answer: D
