I'm a 28-year-old with 6 years WE at my family company. Top 5 public Economics honors program. I applied on the R2 deadlines. Columba MBA rejected me but suggested I consider their EMBA Americas program instead. I had planned to do a full-time MBA, as I am unsure if I want to continue with my family business or look for work elsewhere. I also want to immerse myself into a community. However, the Columbia name is bigger than any of the schools left for me as options (for now), I would enjoy spending time in NYC, and I could continue working and make enough money to cover the cost of school. I already have a nearly full ride at Vanderbilt Owen, though. Any thoughts?

I would consider Columbia over Owen. Much better brand even though as discussed you will miss out on a bit fo the community aspect. Are you already based in NYC? If so it will not be as bad and although your interactions will be more limited than a traditional MBA you will forge strong bonds with your classmates. The brand at Columbia is just too strong to pass up for Owen. Also, in some instances you can transfer from a PT to FT in many programs, not sure this exists at Columbia or particularly in EMBA programs given the difference in program structure but this sometimes is an option although one frowned upon by school officials

Thanks for the feedback. I am certainly torn. I'm actually located in Nashville, which would make it easy to attend Owen and enable me to continue my involvement with the family company some, and earn some income. Obviously with the Columbia EMBA, I'd be working full-time, though...
