That is very very strange. I am yet to see a device or browser that won't respond to style setting. If you care enough to, try rebooting the iPad. That's the last idea I have before I can test out on my now-ancient iPad 2 :-)

Tried a few things...

Force Quit Safari: No help.
Reboot iPad: No help.
Clear History and Website Data: No help.

Turn off JavaScript: Fixes it!

Now obviously turning off JavaScript will break a whole bunch of other stuff, so I turned it right back on. But hopefully that data point helps with your diagnosis.

Thank you. I was able to reproduce it in the school forums on iPad.

The only solution around it at the moment is the iPad App.

there is one thing you can try
use identification type for browser: internet explorer
it is by default safari
I know that sometimes it helps...

Thanks for the idea. Yeah, I tried various user-agent strings in iCab Mobile, and none made a difference. I suspect it's an issue with how the iOS JavaScript engine runs a script on this site.

it shouldn't be a tragedy to disable Java scripts. Most of the websites have had it already disabled, as java is well known as a source through which hackers still data...

Java is entirely different from JavaScript. The former is dead, the latter is the foundation of the modern web.
