Re: At the rate of l liters per s seconds, how many kiloliters (1000 liter [#permalink]

At the rate of L liters per S seconds, how many kiloliters (1000 liters = 1 kiloliter) of blood does the heart pump in X hours?

A. 3,600LX/(1,000S)

B. 1,000LX/(3,600S)

C. 3,600,000XS/L

D. 3,600,000LS/X

E. 3,600,000LXS/

L litre = S seconds
In Xhrs there would 3600*X seconds

So volume pumped = 3600*X*L /S litres

In kilolitres 3,600LX/(1,000S)

L litres per S sec ---> L/S = 1 sec
1 hr = 3600sec
1 kilolitres = 1000L

In S Sec ---> L litres blood pumped
In X hours(3600S) ---> 3600LX blood pumped
In kilolitres ----> 3600LX/1000S

Let’s convert the rate to kiloliters per second.

L liters = L/1000 kiloleters. So, our new rate is:

(L/1000)/S = L/(1000S)

Now we need to determine how much blood is pumped in X hours, or 3600X seconds.

L/(1000S) * 3600X = 3600XL/(1000S)

1000 liters = 1 kiloliter, thus L liters = L/1,000 kiloliter

The rate of L liters per S seconds = \(Rate = \frac{Job \ done}{Time} = \frac{(\frac{L}{1,000})}{S}= \frac{L}{1,000S}\) liters per second.

Since, there are 3,600 seconds in one hour, then the rate in liters per hour would be \(\frac{3,600L}{1,000S}\) liters per hour.

\(Job \ done = Rate*Time = \frac{3,600L}{1,000S}*X = \frac{3,600LX}{1,000S}\).
