Raising a 600 to a 720+ will likely take at least another 2 months of consistent, guided study - if you could consistent score in the high V30s or V40s though, then you could find all of the missing points that you're looking for in the Quant section. With your current timeline, you would only have about 1.5 months of potential study time though, so you might need to consider pushing back your Test Date or changing your Score goal.

That all having been said, if it's been at least 2 weeks since you took that practice CAT, then we need to see a more recent performance (so we can assess whether your current 'way' of studying is leading to improvement or not).

You've named some highly-competitive Schools, so a strong GMAT Score will clearly be a must for your applications. If you're currently studying just 6 to 8 hours a week though, then that will likely limit how quickly you can improve. What type of study routine are you typically following each week (and are you doing most of your study time on the weekends?)?

Hi Rich,

I am studying full time and I can devote 6-8hrs a day, so effectively 40hrs in a week even if I take a day's break to avoid burnout. I study during the day from 10am to 5pm (with some here and there). I desperately need a study plan to keep on track and improve my score. I am willing to do all it takes and can even look at pushing my test date by a week.

Following are the other details about my profile: I have a high score requirement because I am 34yrs old with a work experience of close to 8 years. However I have gaps in my work experience because of relocation to USA, from India, in 2015 and then since Feb 2017 because of my pregnancy. I am not from a Consulting or Finance background. And I am not an engineer. So essentially I am an Indian-Female-Non-IT (Marketing Background) who wishes to study at a Top 15 US business school.

Pls help by guiding me with the next steps and a plan of action. Many thanks!

If you're not planning to apply until Round 2, then you have plenty of time to continue studying and improving. This is important, since there's a decent chance that you'll need more time than you've allotted.

Since you will need to focus on your Quant studies for the time being, it certainly makes sense for you to find a GMAT Course that would cater to those needs. When it comes to studying for the GMAT, there are a variety of different options. Most GMAT Companies offer some type of free materials (practice problems, Trial Accounts, videos, etc.) that you can use to 'test out' a product before you buy it. We have a variety of those resources at our website (www.empowergmat.com). I suggest that you take advantage of all of them then choose the one that best matches your personality, timeline and budget.

Hi Rich,

How are you? I have been studying for the gmat for almost 4 months now using Kaplan and my score are still very low in high 500, compared to the 680 i need to get. I feel that I am not learning from my mistakes and was considering using an error log as a solution and i started taking a tutor now as well as a last resort. From a concept perspective i understand all the math concepts but struggle in applying on questions. Do you have any advice or tips?
