Yes , why not!

Note : All spaces are equal , let each space be denoted by S then:

Statement 2 : 4S=2 then S = \(\frac{1}{2}\) so each space is \(\frac{1}{2}\) if y = 2 then x= 1.5-> Suff.
Statement 1 : We do not know the value of x or y hence we cannot find x -> Not Suff.
