If the tick marks shown on the number line above are equally spaced and if x and y are the numbers designating the end points of an interval, as shown, what is the value of x?

(1) x = (3y)/4
(2) y = 2

Don't you think the correct should be C.....Please let mw know if my solution is correct.....

since x and y are designating the endpoints of the intervals, this means that y-x = 7s
s refers to the spaces

statement I
x=3y/4

from above we know that y-x = 7s
if we put the value of x in the formula y-x = 7s
we get s=y/28

Not sufficient as we don't know the value of y

statement II
y=2

from stem we know that y-x = 7s
if we put y in the formula we get x = 2-7s
still NS

Statement I and II together

from I we have x = 3y/4
from II we have y =2

if we put y = 2 in x=3y/4 we get x =1.5
hence both the statements together are sufficient

correct option should be C

Please let me know the detailed solution if I have done something wrong.

No, the correct answer is B, not C.

From Statement (2), y = 2, and from the diagram, the distance between 0 and y is divided into 4 equal intervals. That means each interval is 0.5 units. Since x is 3 intervals from 0, it must be x = 3 * 0.5 = 1.5. So Statement (2) alone is sufficient.
