Hi Gmat Club Experts,
I am very much enthused to share with you guys that I have received the admits from:
Georgetown Mcdonough@ 20K scholarship,
Schulich Canada $0
Eli Broad - Full Ride+ GA
W.P. Carey Full Ride+GA
Indiana Kelley@ 50% scholarship + Health insurance.
I am very thankful to everyone who have even slightly contributed to this amazing forum and thereby helped me in getting this far .
Folks, I still need your expert advice in choosing the right school based on my profile, Future goals and looming recession.
Profile: 10+ years of experience in merchant navy as engineer, delivering crude oil cargo all over the world. The job entails operations, maintenance, inventory management, policy compliance in different nations and clearing of inspections for garnering future transportation contracts.
Specialisation: I want to pursue supply chain and operations management complimented with business analytics
Post MBA goals: I wish enter into Retail/ecommerce as operations manager or as SCM strategist/analyst in a global organisation.
After much mulling I am now at the crossroads, one takes me to Indiana Kelley and the other to W.P. carey.
Here is my analysis so far about both schools:
Indiana Kelley:
Pros:
Good Brand name with global recognition,
Overall ranking as per US news, BW and FT,
The networking opportunities during the course, clubs and Globase events,
Me.inc program in MBA to create your story and pitch in front of employers,
Great reputation in career services.
STEM designation to FT MBA
Considered good in analytics( same as W.P. Carey)
Location advantage as most manufacturing and pharma companies are located in mid west.
Cons:
Not Famous for SCM and operations
Only 2% of the 2018 cohort were hired in operations
I still have pay around USD 82000 for the MBA
Major brands such as Amazon, Google, pharma companies do not come on campus for SCM roles
Post MBA roles in SCM are somewhat limited to strategy, for other roles in core manufacturing/ operations you have to network your way in
Looming recession due to covid-19 outbreak, internships are hard to find as per current students.
W.P. Carey:
Pros:
Ranked #3 in SCM and logistics as per US news and considered one of the best in SCM and operations.
Very generous Financial Aid along with GA postion(Stipend), hence the MBA will cost me almost nothing.
STEM designation to its FT MBA
Amazon, Google, Apple and pharma companies come to campus for SCM roles.
I can enter into core operations/scm roles though not sure about strategy/analyst roles.
Small cohort with higher avg GMAt, means I will be in company of more competitive students.
Good in analytics( same as Kelley)
Cons:
The overall MBA ranking slipped drastically beyond 100 in FT
Not very effective career services
Located in southwest , hence i considered it a disadvantage
Limited choices in clubs for aggressive networking
There seem to be much less events than Kelley does( Globase, public events in DC, case competitions)
Not much diversity among students and during my networking calls I personally felt a distance between US domestic students and others, not sure why.
As the deadline is closing each day, it stresses me out to make a right choice. I hope with your advice I will be able to make a good decision
Once again, I thank you for all the resources you have provided me through this forum.
