Re: If a rectangular box has two faces with an area of 30, two faces of ar [#permalink]
let the different dimensions of a rectangular box be l, b and h
so
lb= 30
bh=60
lh= 72
or \(l^2*b^2 *h^2 = 30*60*72\)
or lbh = \(\sqrt{30*60*72}\)
= 360
thus volume = 360

A. 60
B. 90
C. 162
D. 300
E. 360

IMO the answer is option E

I did it in a different way

lb=30 - 6*5
bh=60 - 5*12
hl=72 - 12*6 so, lbh=6*5*12=360

Why are we ignoring "two faces" I thought we should divide all the areas by two to get the area of each face? Somebody please help

Let

L * B = 30 [L= 6 ; B = 5]
B * H = 60 [B= 5 ; H = 12]
L * H = 72 [L= 6 ; H = 12]

Volume = L * B * H = 6 * 5 * 12 = 360

Width*Depth = 30;
Width*Height = 60;
Depth*Height = 72.

Multiply: (Width*Depth*Height)^2 = Volume^2 = 30*60*72 = 30*(30*2)*72 = 30^2*12^2 --> Volume = 30*12 = 360.

Answer: E.

Please help me understand why we can't factor the two faces. Meaning we divide by 2 to get the area of one face.
