A question in Permutation and Combination.

There are 6 executives from New York and 4 executives from Los Angeles.

A meeting of 4 executives, exactly 2 has to be from New york. So, the remaining 2 has to be from Los Angeles.

We have 4 slots to fill. 2 slots from NY and 2 slots from LA.

Two slots from NY can be filled in 6C2 ways = 15
Two slots from LA can be filled in 4C2 ways = 6
Total ways of filling the slots is the product of the number of ways that each slot can be filled.
Total Ways of filling = 15 * 6 = 90 ways

Option (A) is the answer

Position of choosen persons don't matter. Thats why your answer is incorrect I think.

I agree.

As a result you need to say (6*5)/2 for NY, and (4*3)/2, which gives 15 and 6, then multiply to find all combinations = 90.

New York: 2 out of 6 = \(^6{C_2} = 15\)

Los Angeles: 2 out of 4 = \(^4{C_2} = 6\)

Total : 15 * 6 = 90

From NY office 2 persons out of total 6 can join the meeting. (order doesn't matter)
From LA office 2 persons out of total 4 can join the meeting. (order doesn't matter)

In total : 6*5(NY office)*4*3(LA office) can join the meeting.

total : 360 ways.
