This is not an allegation or mixture problem.

This is a simple equation problem

x+y=4

1. Gives value of x
Suff
2. Gives value of y
Suff

Seems a 500 level ques.

1. X = 3/2 Suff.
2. Y = 5/2 and X + Y = 4 (given) Suff.

A certain 4-liter solution of vinegar and water consists of x liters of vinegar and y liters of water. How many liters of vinegar does the solution contain?

(1) x/4 = 3/8
(2) y/4 = 5/8

Can someone help to solve this using allegations and mixtures?

Show SpoilerMy concern
NOTE: I know this can be solved using finding values of x and y too... but i am looking for allegations method out of curiosity..

Question: x = ?

Given: x+y = 4

Statement 1: x = 3/2

SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: y = 5/2

(2) y/4 = 5/8

For 2nd option to be correct add (only)in the question like this the solution (only) contains vinegar and waters, beacause 2nd option states about the water we dont know if there is another portion of something in that solution
