ESSEC Interview Debrief:
There were 3 panelists: one professor of economics, one alum (80s graduate) who worked in PE and is now in VC, and an ESSEC M2 student who wants to get into PE. The interview started great, with me commenting on my experiences and then they were really interested in one experience of mine, and then we talked about that experience for almost 10-15 minutes. After that, they asked Why France, Why ESSEC, any experience traveling internationally, and questions related to international experience. They came back again to that one specific internship, having a conversation for 10 more minutes. Then, the alum asked me questions about consulting industry, impact of AI in consulting, sustainability in consulting, and asked about shark tank (that was really random).
The interview went really well, and the professor, and especially the alum, was really interested in my profile as I had no work experience and had some knowledge of the consulting industry.
Points to Note:
1. They looked at my essays and I wrote that I want to get into sustainability consulting at some point, so 10 minutes of the interview was based on this. (The alum mentioned it at the beginning of the interview and said we’ll have a conversation about that)
2. I don’t think many Indians apply to ESSEC w/o work experience, so this experience was really interesting and the panelists asked me questions that I could actually answer instead of checking on my knowledge of various sectors (Yes I mentioned which sectors I want to consult)
3. The interview was really deep and conversational, and I enjoyed it; they were immensely friendly and made me comfortable.
4. Interview duration: 55 minutes
Breakdown:
Conversation: 49 minutes
Q&A: 6 minutes ( I didn’t have many questions as I’ve talked to a lot of ESSEC students and alums)
All the best everyone who has their interview today!
