I dont think it means anything but essentially they make sure the reco's and scores are verified and that the payment went through. So...not big deal

Ok, thats exactly what I was wondering. I did not think it meant much, but wanted to check what the individual statuses say. Thanks.

So Saurabh- I guess both you and your wife applied for GSB as well? So that means we should count your name twice in the list? :)

Guys..about official transcripts...Since my undergraduation is from foreign institute I can't go and get an official transcript from that institute. I guess is it OK if I get my transcripts NOTARIZED by a public official here in US and provide as an official one. I hope I'm right but still checking...

Any ideas?

WOW! 28 applicants in R2??? Chicago is getting some lovin'! :P

I wonder why (other than #1 in BW this year) GSB is so popular compared to all the M7's and top 15's???

Well... Let's see:
Charles M. Harper Center
100% flexible curriculum
Excellent reputation with recruiters
Nobel winning faculty
Outstanding alumni - I am absolutely sincere, in Russia, at least, alumni are superb!

Out of all the alumni and students I talked to, I found Chicago's the best followed by LBS (in Sydney). Its not just lip service for the essays, I truly found them interesting, helpful and very down to earth - none of the "Oh I am from HBS / Wharton / Stanford" air (no offense to these very fine institutions).

don't other M7's have nobel winning faculty too?

I do agree about the Harper Center and the 100% flexible curriculum though, that *almost* made me apply!

I've got to agree with helg and bsd_lover about the alumni and the current students. A lot of them went out of the way to answer any question I had. That probably had a bigger influence than the new harper center. Honestly, as long as you have plenty of space any building can do, its not like you will magically learn more because the building came up in 2005 instead of 1960.

I too want to put in a good word for the GSB students who were super helpful (including rhyme) and took time out of their crazy schedules to show me around. One even drove over on a Sunday night, picked me up, showed me the Harper Center at night and had dinner with me. I was truly impressed (unfortunately, Kellogg seemed like a better fit for me culturally, and I was too lazy to do a 5th set of essays...) :(

Many others have Nobel winning faculty , but IMHO, chicago as a university truly believes in their "challeneg everything" approach! In which other university you will find a professor proving slavery was actually an economically efficient system ( Fogel)! Who would have dared to argue against Keynesians way back in '60s ( Friedman)! Lucas challenged practically all the existing models by his rational expectation theory! In Finance, think about efficient market hypothesis ( I think Fama, pls correct me if I am wrong)! There are many other examples ( Lucas in development, Stigler the doyen himself).

It is not only about winning prizes, Chicagoans, more than any other schools of social sciences, have challenged the existing knowledge every time while doing so.
