Describe your personal and professional goals and the role an MBA from the University of Chicago GSB plays in your plans to reach these goals. (1,500 word maximum) Our general guidelines for the standard career goals essay apply to this document, but the above-average length and the nature of Chicago’s other questions add another strategic consideration. While the second and third essays certainly provide ample opportunity to share information about oneself, there really isn’t much room for narrative. This is a distinct contrast from schools like Stanford and MIT, which ask applicants to recount the details of their actions in several specific kinds of situations across the application essays. With this in mind, Chicago applicants might want to use a portion of their 1500 words in this essay to briefly share the details of some professional achievements and significant experiences. Essay 2: If you could step into someone else’s shoes for a day, who would it be and why? (500 word maximum) The most common trap that applicants fall into when answering this question is writing more about the person whose shoes he or she would choose to occupy than about the reasons for this selection and the way it fits into his or her candidacy. While this can be a fun question with an answer that is sure to be telling, it’s important not to lose sight of what should be the main objective of one’s application: sharing impressive information about oneself that is relevant to one’s business school candidacy. Selecting a prominent figure whose work is in line with one’s professional goals or favorite hobby can be a great strategy for producing an interesting essay that allows for detail about the applicant’s background as well. Essay 3: We have asked for a great deal of information throughout this application. In this portion of the application, we invite you tell us about yourself using a non-traditional application format–a PowerPoint presentation. In four slides or less, please provide readers with content that captures who you are. This approach isn’t exactly revolutionary - Stern’s usual Essay 3 asks for a personal expression that gives candidates complete freedom with content and medium (except for the exclusion of edible/perishable personal expressions) - but it does speak to Chicago’s interest in a candidate’s interests and personality. While all this “white space” might be daunting to some, an easy way to approach this process is to ask oneself a few simple questions. Are there four personal themes to which you would like to devote a slide each? Would you prefer to use the four frames to create a sense of progression through a day, event or activity? We’re hesitant to provide too much guidance given the free-form nature of the task; the best advice we can offer is to think about who you are (and how this might be of interest to the GSB adcom), consider how you could translate this into words and images, and then try it out. GSB R2 is going to be very crowded, somebody told me that before R1, as many guys were expecting to see how to approach the PPTs...

But I'm sure that Gmat Club will have a better acceptance rate than R1 :wink:

Did you put your name on ppt presentation?

The Chicago instructions say - "Please include your full name at the top of ALL uploaded documents."

I think that there is not much space for our names in ppt presentation...

What a journey? Starting last week of November until today I forget all about my personal life and work. Yet, I guess we haven't crossed half of our journey :-(

Did you guys find time to sit with family and have some quality time? Because I didn't and I need to thank my wife for her endurance. I didn't move a small object in my house and she took care of everything so that I could concentrate on the application process. To add more complexity, I took GMAT on Dec 27th and prepared for only 10 days. Whew !!!

Unfortunately my mind is blank after a month of thought process and writing essays. I need to find some way to keep it occupied again :-)

Hope we guys get atleast a interview call for all the effort we put in !

Don't worry - I didn't either and I was admitted. I'm sure they're giving a little leeway with the Powerpoint since it's the first year they're doing it and there were practically NO guidelines.

Well mine has improved post admit but still is hectic at times...much to my wifes displeasure I have read lots of other peoples essays. She definitely thinks I need to give this a break. Probably since June when I began to hit the books hard for the GMAT through Nov, my life revolved around b-school apps. During christmas break my wife handed me a stack of paper bags and told me to recycle my dozens of versions of essays, notes from visits, pamphlets from schools, pretty much everything related to applying. I filled 4 grocery bags to the top with junk that was in those file boxes.

Just use this as practice for what first semester will be like next fall. Now I have to get to work on financial aid and the Mrs. has to look for a job, and together we have to figure out the move...I wont even talk about selling our house.

Only after an interview invite. I ordered my transcripts ahead of time (had them sent to my house) so that I could send them in if invited/admitted to the schools that I applied to.

Audio, crazy man... Dude, there must be something about last minute with Belgians... I really thought I would post it earlier, but just did it late this afternoon...

By the way, does anyone know if the GSB interviews are blind? Does the interviewer read the essays before? Just wondering (an being too lazy to search through the forum...)
