Couple of ways. First, anecdotal: from current full time students who were part time students and switched - their indication of how much harder it was to get in to the FT program... Along the same lines, the stories of people who were in PT, tried to switch to FT and failed. Second personal observation, including a few people who were denied FT, reapplied PT and were admitted, and finally, in general, for any school, if you take a look at the %'s for FT and for PT, the PT program always has a higher admit %. Occasionally, its notably higher. I'd expect that to hold true at the GSB as well. Most of all though, I'm basing on it on what ex-part time students have said.

from what i've gathered from the ad-com the difficulty of switching from pt to ft is extremely deliberate and something they are very upfront about. i believe it is mostly due to the internship, which at this point is the major difference in the program. i believe there is a very set system for this that they really cannot disrupt, so they are upfront in disclosing your chances of moving are slim to none, even with a 4.0 and the credentials necessary for full time. the scores are slightly lower, as they are across all of the top schools, as this is probably a product of the applicants, specifically age and years post-undergrad.

Well they actually require you to apply to the FT programs like any other person. I would think if you are doing very very well in the PT program that it would actually help your chances as long as you have a very valid reason for wanting to now do a FT program.

So I read the transcript and if I understand correctly, GSB interviews ~50% of the applicants??? How far do they get through the app before making that decision? Then do they only take about 1/4 of those that they interview?


It seems that they talk about "crafting" the class based on diversity. Is that because they cannot ask for (i.e. require) ethnicity in the app, but they make notes when they get back from the interview....Perhaps I'm just a paranoid white boy.

To your first q: Correct, its roughly 50% interview rate. They read the entire app. Here's how it works: A student reads your app first and makes a recommendation to interview or not. Then a staff member reads it. If they both agree, then you get an invite. If they disagree, then a third staff member reads it, and acts as the tie breaker. After the interview process, I don't know how precisely it works, but its basically a roundtable discussion at that stage. As for what percentage of people who interview get offers, no one knows (and I'd suggest you not bother trying to guess cause itll just drive you nuts). As to the rest of your q: You are a paranoid white boy. When they say "Craft" they don't mean "1 black guy for every 3 whiteys", they mean making sure the class is diverse - on every dimension -- (even academic, actually, which I was surprised to hear) - they want people from varied backgrounds, industries, different hobbies, interests, goals, experiences, skills, weakness, strengths, etc. It is not a race/ethinicity decision.

I'll tell you guys which firm it is once the interview process is over... For now, ill just say its a corporate strategy role within a large bank.

yeah, exactly why I asked about the role :) When I asked a second year student abt GM and Chicago (esp in technology) he wasnt very enthusiastic about the opportunities. He said I'd be better off with maybe Hass thats closer to silicon valley. While thats a valid point, I was concerned when he talked of GSB as a mid-west school and said many tech companies dont come on campus.
