Hi guys,

I am just back from my interview and here's a quick recap:

Linwood Harris was a very,very friendly guy. I think this is the norm at Tepper. He asked some routine questions. He (I heard James also does) knew EVERYTHING about my essays and resume. He had not just scanned them, he had read them really well. The interview took 1 hour but it felt as if it lasted 10 minutes. It was enjoyable and he was engaging. Plus we talked a lot about things not directly related to the interview (probably he used those to gauge my communication style/skills). Football-Pittsburgh and its neighborhoods-golf etc.

All in all I had a very positive feeling, but the other 4 applicants who had their interviews also claimed they had great time too. You never know...

p.s. I really loved the atmosphere at Tepper. The Oakland area is very beautiful to spend a couple years at as well...

To those of you who were admitted in RD1, has CMU set a date for some type of "admissions weekend"?

Just wondering what that date might be.

Apr 11-12 is their Admit weekend (they call it "Welcome Weekend"). Kind of odd, since Rd 1 folks have to give a response by 2/29. But, I presume that they just do one big weekend for Rd 1 and 2 folks due to the smaller class size.

I dinged Tepper today. I really liked the school though, but feel that Ross is a better fit for my career goals.

Well, It looks like I'm about to submit my application for the last round of tepper. Do you guys have any impressions about the school from the viewpoint of someone aiming for a career in VC/PE?

I broke up with Tepper last week, including turning down a Dean's Scholarship (full ride) offer. That was really, really tough. :? Here's hoping both the spot and the scholarship go to one of the awesome folks here.

I think it's MIT for me.

Jc,

Congratulations on the MIT decision. I am a R2 applicant there and it is the interview invite time now. Heart beating really fast every time I check the mail. I think Tepper is great, and becomes fantastic after Dean's scholarship, but MIT is a global brand like few other. Way to go. If the same happened to me (which won't :lol: ) I'd do what you did in a heartbeat.

Congrats to you and wisepig (I think also MIT prospective) both. I'd give a pinkie to be in your shoes! :punk

Any updates from those who applied in R2 ? Decisions are out . Many folks reported admits/WLs/Dings in BW forum.

My WL remains in that status, although I sent 4 significant updates since December.

I just checked my email, and I got accepted!

I am pretty surprised. I applied because they waived my application fee, and the more I learned about the school the more I liked it. Still, I was all set to go to Florida (was going to mail in my deposit later this week), and I like the school and all. Now CMU throws themselves into the mix. I've been doing AmeriCorps and non-profit work since I finished undergrad, so I don't really have much in savings (and what I have is going towards my wedding this summer). Is CMU worth it? I'd have to take out loans for EVERYTHING. The debt load at Florida seemed much more manageable.

Depends on what you'll do what area you'll work in but CMU is and has been a GREAT institution for so long. Tepper has a very good reputation among recruiters especially in Consulting (moreso with IT related consulting) and among with MIT they are the tops in Quantitative Marketing.

It has far stronger a brand then Florida, maybe except, in Florida...

I am trying to decide b/w CMU and Michigan for the moment... Thank God for such awesome options...

I'm in as well!

I'm in a similar boat. Applied to CMU primarily because of the name (as an engineer the CMU name carries some real weight) and application fee waiver. The more I learned about it the more I liked it. All my interactions with the adcom and students have been awesome, right down to the acceptance email flash animation.

I am already in a UW Foster (a place I absolutely love) with a good scholarship which would make it very affordable. I was totally commited and ready to go until an hour ago. Now CMU steps up with a admit and a scholarship which almost makes it cheap enough. Looks like the decision process is going to be drawn out another month. I hope my wife doesn't divorce me!

PE,

How did you find out about the scholarship? Did CMU call? Was it included in the email? Some financial assistance would make it much easier for me to say yes to Tepper.

Also, you are definitely right about the name recognition Tepper has amongst engineers and quant-focused disciplines. My fiancee's cousin is working on his mathematics PhD at Berkeley, and he'd think I'm nuts if I turn down Carnegie Mellon. He would have gone there himself if Berkeley hadn't been slightly better in his preferred field.
