Hi All,
I am indian CA and working in top I banks for last 5 years.. I have ~ 8 yrs of experience in treasuty , forex and I banking. I wanna move into PE/VC as my ST goal and long term is to start a fund in India.I have these goals in my essays... I have done enough research and know tht its very difficult to get into these niche fileds without prior experience... though i know few who have done it from H/S/W as well...
Do u guys think, stating these in an MBA goal essays would make adcoms feel i havent done enough research or probably unrealistic goals?

I think you're on the right track, but it would be better to also elaborate on why (a particular) MBA programme, including courses which would help fill your knowledge gaps, clubs/activities to build the relevant networks, etc. I think for some schools (eg Stanford) a strong sense of purpose and self-awareness is something they look out for, so do try to touch on the motivations for your post-MBA goals. Maybe mention a few of the types of VC/PE companies which you are targeting eg,"Post MBA, I would like to start as an analyst in XYZ fund to acquire the necessary skills in (explain what areas here), before eventually starting a fund in India."

sudhir - your problem wont be the research - but it will be the goals themselves. I feel that your LT goal of starting a fund in India will be all too common. Certainly not the distinctive stuff that ad-coms look for. Having said that, I haven't read your essays. So long as you convince them that you have a logical plan and passion for these aims in your stories, you might be ok.
