The reality is that the current employers are better. :-( but I didn't want to risk losing what I currently have.

Is that a good way to present it? Or do you suggest another way? thx.

I would say that it is better to say something about your situation than simply leave it without comments. Adcom consists with smart people and they know how it's hard to find a good job in recession. Be honest and go ahead! :)

Having a slight panic attack - where are the recommender questions??

There is a small text field on the page where you designate recommenders to explain why you chose them.

I have my app completed and ready to submit but am having second thoughts about my slide presentation...

Yes, but it only asks why you chose them not the exact questions recommenders have to answer right?

I am pretty much done although neither recommender has submitted so im getting very anxious as to why..

With regard to the slide presentation, i wouldnt worry too much about it - its not a decisive factor between getting in or not.

Time to send them "friendly reminder #37"! :-D

All jokes aside, I think you should definitely keep the communication channel alive with your recommenders and make sure they are going to submit in time. The deadline is coming up soon, although I do believe school accept recommendations a week after the deadline.

I don't think applicants see the recommender forms. The system will email you once the recommendation is submitted. It also turns out you can see the recommender status by checking application status (even if you haven't submitted yet). Yes, it's buried and I didn't notice until after emailing admissions for help.

While I'd agree that no part of the application is make or break per se, I wouldn't just summarily dismiss the PPT as some kind of cute experiment the admissions staff started on a lark...

I think its actually a pretty big part of the application, as its really the easiest vehicle for making a lasting impression (as I say, no one ever remembers "that guy who worked for bain" but they do remember "that guy who draws charcoal sketches of people"). Similarly, I've seen some PPTs that displayed some serious judgment issues and I imagine those didn't help candidates out much either (e.g. skip the photo of you doing a keg stand).
