Hi,
I am done with GMAT and now thinking about TOEFL.I am thinking about taking the exam in 15 days. But is that too short of a time to prepare for this test? And how much can preparing for GMAT help a person to also prepare for TOEFL?Does GMAT and TOEFL have anything in common at all?
Hi msneemo,
To begin with you can go through the various posts by rid82 and others to get an overview about the exam. I think if you can dedicate enough time going through the posts and the various debriefs by people, it will help you a lot in your preparation.
Coming to your question, 2 weeks is just about enough for a person with average grasp over the english language. The only common aspects between GMAT and TOEFL are the RC and Writing sections. Although the RC sections are much longer in TOEFL, the questions in general are easier and hence you should not find it too difficult to answer them. Coming to the writing section, again the topics are much easier and if you had the templates by heart for your AWA section, you should not be in trouble with the TOEFL writing section.
I do not know how fluent you are while speaking, but even native speakers find it difficult to speak under pressure and hence this is one area you should really concentrate on. Read my debrief to know how I prepared.
Listening again depends on how comfortable you are in comprehending foreign accent. But the passages in general are slowly and loudly spoken so that, too, should not bemuch of a problem, especially if you are in a habit of watching english movies! Again, read my debrief to know how I prepared.
Lastly, the exam is NOT tough if you are well prepared. Well, that's true for most exams but all I can say is this is one exam you can ace by preparing well in a limited time, and yes, it IS possible to prepare within a limited time.
All the Best!
