Hi,
I am having trouble with the DS style questions, even the easy ones ! In problem solving I feel I got some mojo, in DS I am like a brick
I've been practicing for quite some time now, and I still can't get my head around these frustrating questions, i've tried all different sorts of strategies :
AD/BCE , covering the stem, looking for hidden constrains, imagining the stem as part of the question, praying, dragon fire, unicorn dust ... nothing works !
I just can't seem to get my head around them
On my first attempt at a sample of about 80 DS questions from the official guide [40 "easy" bin and 40 from the "difficult bin"] my hit rate was %82 and %77 respectively, as in the percentage of questions I got correct
But that's with really being liberal with the timing
Anyhow, my questions are two :
1- Is such a hit rate normal ? (i.e if I didn't get %90 from the first solving attempts, can I still get a high quant score ? I'm worried its a you get it or you don't kind of thing)
2- Do you have any words to help with DS style questions, anything, tips, advice, strategy. I just get shaken completely when I see a DS question
Thank You

Mastering the DS is possible with prolonged practice.
for number properties and inequalities, make sure you check these things everytime. for any value X: 1) check fraction vs integer 2) check positive vs zero vs negative 3) check even vs odd 4) master your co-ordinate geometry and number lines. visualize the equations on graphs
Don't solve the whole question, take one statement at a time. If possible place some paper on options while looking at a particular statement. Gmat has limited number of permutations for DS type, try to master them.
Og and gmat club's quant tests are good source of DS questions.
